Am I unable to utilize my dvr to pause a program when it’s streaming?

If the morning news is live or recorded beforehand, you should definitely be able to pause it. Even on-demand content can be paused at your leisure. What streaming device are you using? What happens when you try to pause the news?
It’s fine now, apparently during a rain storm Direct TV was streaming, so the I was unable to pause! Learning something new!

Sounds like you have DirecTV Satellite service, not DirecTV Stream. This is the DirecTV Stream forum.

DirecTV Stream uses cloud storage. DVR's are not supported with the streaming service.
