Unable to watch Jets v Giants Preseason game
I am in the NY metro area, so it broadcasted on cbs, nbc, or fox. However, the box recorded it on NFL network and when i go to play it, it says "owner does not allow streaming in your area". Why is direct tv stream recording something I cant watch instead of the local version I can watch? It seems like it would extremely simple to just check if its available to actually play when picking which one to record! Or at least record both! Really (Edited per community guidelines) because I was really looking forward to watching this.

Hi Mike, we're sorry this ongoing Nexstar dispute has resulted in losing access to this game. We are working hard to come to a resolution with them. Please visit TVPromise.com for alternative ways to continue watching your favorite shows and teams.

I dont believe this is related. the game aired on NBC in the new york market and that is not part of the nexstar dispute according to your website.
THe issue, which I have had in the past, especially with baseball, is that when the program is on 2 channels at thee ssame time, the dvr is dumb and doesnt care that you cant watch what it's recording due to blackouts. Why doesnt the dvr prioritze based on the station that is not blacked out for the home location? this feels like it would be a simple fix.

I don't have personal experience with this issue - did you set it to record a specific channel and it overrode that or did you set it to record a team, leaving it to make the choice?
I’m not sure that what you suggest would be a simple change - I don’t know if they have the needed info readily available at the time they schedule the recording. But given the impact of the issue, it certainly seems incumbent on them to find some solution.

Yeah I set it to record the team for baseball or for football just all nfl games. For baseball the yankees play on at least 4 different channels so I can't just set it up to record on one specific one. NFL has the same issue, sometimes games are on nbc, fox, cbs, espn but sometimes only on the nfl network. Hopefully with NFL this will only be a pre-season issue as typically this wouldnt happen.

Hi @mike453434, you can set up your DVR to record a show or a game on one specific channel. If the game is being broadcast on multiple channels, the DVR will only record the channel you set up before. It may not recognize if the game is being blacked out. We're constantly working to improve your experience with our service. We'll forward your suggestion to our specialized team. DIRECTV is always by your side. Gabriela, DIRECTV Community Specialist
