Volume Goes Up & Down on DirecTV Stream
I am having trouble with the volume going up and down on all channels on DirecTV Stream. Am using the TV's speakers. Does anyone have a remedy? There was a similar question in the Forums from four years ago, but no solution was offered.

@pbcguy18 Thank you for posting that it was your box and that getting a replacement box fixed your problem. That way if we see this issue again we can tell people that they will need to contact Directv Stream for a replacement. @rlwokc Since this is happening on both of your Directv Streaming Boxes you should definitely contact customer service to see about getting both of your boxes replaced.

I have the same volume issues and am using the Roku directv streaming app. The problem is NOT restricted to Directv boxes.

Hello @jlindlau your comment has caught our attention.
In case your Roku device is connected to the TV with composite cable, please check to ensure the cabled are snugly attached at both ends of the TV and Roku Streaming Device.
You can also connect the Roku player to a different input and see if the audio is working properly.
As an additional tip, try changing the HDMI/composite cable.
In case further assistance is needed please let us know, we'll be attentive to help.

It sounds more and more like DIRECTV Stream is the problem. It really seems like there is an AGC somewhere in the Stream pipeline reacting to spikes in the audio and over compensating for it. Both my boxes audio level drops dramatically when a loud spike in sound happens. Plus very low end bass rumbles distort and don’t sound natural.

Hello @rlwokc, thanks for the details.
Just to confirm, does it happen using a different device? Besides, have you tried to restart your DIRECTV STREAM devices? You can press the red button on the side or unplug it for 30 seconds, then turn it back in. You can also get help with sound issues on your DIRECTV STREAM device here.
Let us know how it goes.

I have reset the boxes and the problem still persists. I was broadcast television director for 40 years and it sounds like an AGC grabbing those audio spikes and over compensating. AGC’s are used much more regularly now in an automated broadcast world to help correct inconsistent volume levels.

I have tried the things you suggested and still have the sound issue. I have NO sound issues with any other Roku apps which suggests that Directv streaming app is where the problem lies not cabeling or connections..

Hello @jlindlau, let us give you a hand with this.
As a first step, let's make sure that the Roku you are streaming on is compatible with your DIRECTV STREAM service, you can review the list of compatible devices here
On the other hand, please follow these steps on how to troubleshoot sound issues in your roku device
Please, let us know how it goes.

Today was watching my DirecTV stream at work through a web browser. During the MLB baseball playoff game an eruption in crowd sound the audio level adjusted down dramatically then leveled back up slowly. Just like it does through my boxes at home. This is an AGC upstream of all of our devices and apps. That’s where you need to be looking in my opinion. Thanks

I have the same problem. Music in the programing seems to always raise the audio level. Commercials seem to be louder as well. I am trying the Samsung "auto sound" setting suggested above and hope it helps on at least one of our TVs.

@pbcguy18. @DIRECTVhelp I have a new wifi.Roku box on a brand new LG tv, outputting sound through ARC to a soundbar, and I have problems with the volume dropping low or out entirely at random. I have to change channels then go back to fix the issue. Did the same on the previous tv, as well. I occasionally had picture freezes

My direct tv stream is doing this as well for the last couple weeks. Goes really loud and then very low. Did anyone find a fix for this? Also it’s doing it on another tv using the Directtv stream app installed on the TV.

Call them they had me adjust the box, reset box and nothing changed. They sent me a new box and so far it’s working great.
