Why do some channels show the same number?

NESN and NESN+ both have 628. There's also multiple MSG and MSG+ that are either 634 or 635. How is this practical? Why can't each channel have its own number? There isn't even a 629 on my guide so why isn't NESN+ 629? Baffled.

@philoT it's the way Regional Sports Channels work. Sometimes one of them won't air anything so you will see a 'sign off" event if you go to the guide. When you have 2 or 3 channels with the same number, entering the number itself in the remote will take you to the first one that matches the number on the guide. The only way to enter into the alternate channels is through the guide itself.  Check this post for your reference. I think customer representatives forwarded the suggestions internally for someone to improve this experience (remote control-wise) when there are duplicated channel numbers on the guide.  https://www.reddit.com/r/DirectvStream/comments/u82vkz/no_yes_network_using_631_on_osprey_remote/

Hello @philoT thanks for bring this to our attention.

First, please check whether software upload is going on your DIRECTV STEREAM device:

1. Go to System
2. Then click on Settings
3. Select Software check
4. And Check the current status

If that is the case, wait for software updates to complete as that might be disturbing the guide to load.

We can also confirm that this is not a connection issue please try these tips.

Please let us know how it goes.

Both DirecTV devices are up to date. I see this on the channel guide for the browser interface too.

Same channel numbers for NESN and NESN+ and several MSG channels all using 635. It means those alternate channels are only accessible from the guide not from punching in a number on the remote.

@GTyz Thanks. Good to see they're aware of it. Hopefully it gets a fix in the near future.

Directv Satellite uses dash numbers for RSN subchannels. I wish Directv STream did the same thing. The Dtv Stream box (Osprey box) remote has a dash on it that is never used. I get Bally's Sports Midwest and Midwest Extra but both are 671. The extra channel should be 671-1. Right now the only way you can get to subchannels is thru the guide.
