Wrong local channels
have had the service for about a year and the area I am in should have the St. Louis market for the local channels. For some reason, when we got up yesterday, we now have the Paducah Ky local channels! I spent several phone calls and about three hours on the phone with various folks and they really have no idea what changed. I have even done a hard reset on one of the AT&T boxes with no help. All the boxes in the house are AT&T C71KW-400. The account shows the correct zip code,. This problem not only shows up in the house boxes but on the Direct Tv Streaming app on my phone. Again this all happened over night and there were no changes made by us. Configuration: ATT&T fiber internet, ATT C71KW-400 , ATT cell phone carrier as of March 3rd (another nightmare, should have stayed with Verizon for cell service).
Any ideas on who can fix this issue would be greatly appreciated.

I love how some people think they have a right to 2 sets of locals. Dtv Stream doesn't advertise that option and when you put in your zip code into their channel lineup it shows you get 1 set of locals. It is---what it is. Get over it.

It really only matters when you lose the ones the ones you wanted but you watched the others. I wonder if the FCC called their hand on this.

I have been busy but I want to clarify something to get everyone here on the same page. It seems that there are different issues going on. I do not expect two sets of local channels. I do want the correct ones for the area I live in and am not getting those. I had the correct local channels until earlier this week when they made a change of some kind.
Second, the customer service at AT&T leaves a bit to be desired. The reply here by Juan a few pages back basically says that some folks will get new channels and they cannot be changed back. Well that is not acceptable if the change pushed me to the wrong local channels for my area. The other issue is now that they have me on the wrong channels, this forces me to watch the networks from that area. Before you say, who cares, if I want to record something to watch later, the system gives me an error and will not allow me to record anything on those networks.
So bottom line, they are charging me for DVR, (which I cannot use for network TV now) and local channels that are not local. Telling me sorry but that is the way it is cannot be considered ok.
Then there is also the safety issue, right now if the National Weather Service issues a weather warning, I will no see it as they have me on the wrong local area.
Yes I am about at my wits end, and if there was another option, I would consider it.

Fully understand the issues here in this post and several other also. I agree with you totally. No one knows what is behind the changes and you can bet the help guys don't neither. They are only 1st level support and have little knowledge of the reason behind the change. Their hands are tied and have no control of the situation. You are not alone with the problem. I can only speculate that this may have resulted form a FCC audit or a surrounding broadcaster complaint. Time will tell.

@Michael63640 Yah your situation is different. Unfortunately, others have mucked up your post and are crying about getting 2 sets. When they asked for your zip code/county did they ever get back to you?

On Friday afternoon , they sent me the following in private message: :I'll do an internal re-sync of the programming to reinstate the local channels, that will take up to 24 hours"
I have sent them back via private message that as of Saturday evening, no change. Then I sent in another message that as of this evening still no change. Hearing nothing but crickets from them.
My guess is they have no idea what they messed up and therefore no idea how to fix it. The fact that I cannot record the networks seems to indicate that the system knows the local channels I am seeing is not correct, but I am not hopeful at this point that anyone with knowledge is involved.

Who sent it = the Help rep? I can tell you that support can not make the change. In the past (back in DirecTV Now days), the request was submitted to the engineers for review and change. Quotes back then were 7-10 days. The bigger picture is that when the geolocation services scans again they may or may not identify you in a different region again. When they submit their report to DirecTV Stream for local mappings again you may lose locals again. All this is based on the FCC rulings ro ensure market liability.
We assume all this is still taking place since DirecTV Stream can not obtain the information because of privacy issues. They pay these services big bucks for this information that has low accuracy record around 70%.

In one of my conversations with DirecTV I suggested letting the customer decide which market to choose. They told me it doesn't work that way.

Correct.DirecTV Stream has no control on the mapping of locals. They only map locals based on DMA region by zip code per FCC rulings.

Hello, @Michael63640 . Thanks for letting us know. We apologize for all the inconveniences this change has caused. I've checked this outage and was already reported and escalated. Now, the team in charge is working to resolve that problem as soon as possible.

I am curious if anyone else here is actually seeing the St. Louis local channels. They are telling me it is an "outage" that is being worked on, but I have friends in the STL area that are seeing the local channels. If there was an actual outage, I would think they would be available on my guide, and just not show up. Since the channels are not in my guide, I really suspect they changed something in my account settings causing this problem. So if anyone on here is able to currently see the St. Louis local channels, please respond.
Thanks,

No it's not a outage. They have already admitted mapping change have taken place. The chances are very high that you are in one of the impacted areas.

@Michael63640 Do you know anyone else in Farmington or your county who subscribe to Directv Stream? I'd ask around--maybe post on Facebook see if anyone else is getting the wrong locals. How long have you had Dtv stream?

bcbsncjlj: If you look at the post just above my last one, "Juan" is the person who in private chat keeps telling me it is an outage that they are working on.
Ludwick577: I have had it for a year with no issues till last Thursday. It all changed overnight and has been a nightmare trying to deal with them to say the least. The two folks I know in the area that had it quit and went with satellite because of issues they were having. I got involved with them after the fact and quickly figured out that their installer set it up in such a way that they were having signal strength issues that were going to be impossible to overcome.
I did the install myself and have not had any issues with the internet or the DirectTv Stream until they screwed it up last Thursday.
I am suspecting that the real issue is that depending on which geo-locate service they use, it will show them a location that is incorrect. I am closer to St. Louis than I am to either Cape Girardeau or Popular Bluff, but three of the services show those locations!
I suspect it is not on their radar as a real issue if the rest of the folks down here are not impacted.
