YES Network (channel 631) Problems

I signed up for DTV Stream last week specifically so that I can watch Yankees games on YES Network.  There are a couple problems that I have been seeing every day.  First, the picture gets very jittery.  The motion is not smooth.  It's like watching the game through a strobe light.  It comes and goes at random. Sometimes changing the channel fixes the problem for a few minutes but then it comes back.

This problem occurs on all my devices:  Firestick, Fire Cube, Roku, Osprey Box

Secondly, every night I have seen a problem where the channel completely freezes.  It's random and usually occurs about once per hour.  I have to change the channel and then change it back and the problem resolves.  Again, this happens on all my devices.

I have no problem with Netflix, Hulu, Prime Video, etc. so this is not a problem with my internet or network.  I also have my devices connected through ethernet so it's not a wireless problem.

Comparing DIRECTV STREAM to on-demand services is not equivalent. Rather than just acquiring already-stored movies/TV shows from servers, the streaming device must consistently receive audio and video at a constant speed.

Does this happen on all channels or just YES Network? I’m glad you were able to wire your devices via Ethernet, that greatly reduces latency and increases speed.

I sometimes see the jitter on other channels when I first tune to the channel, and then it goes away after about 10-15 seconds.  YES Network seems to be the worst.  Yesterday I tuned to YES and then rewound about 30 seconds and watched from that point and that seemed to temporarily resolve the problem.  But this is not really a good solution especially when flipping back and forth between channels.

If it happens on all devices and with a good amount of channels, your internet connection is to blame. You should perform an upload and download speed test (speedtest.net). Report back the results.

@detuch254

Streaming over the internet is pretty much the same whether live or stored. The traffic is a continue back and forth between server and device.

I don't think the internet connection has anything to do with this.   This seems to be a frame rate issue.  I'm guessing some of these channels are streaming at 30Hz rather than 60Hz or above.  If this was an internet speed issue then we would expect to see buffering.  I'm not getting buffering.  Motion is not smooth in the picture which of course is going to be most noticeable with sports.

I did some further investigation tonight.  This problem is occurring on all channels that have sports.  I saw it on FS1 (baseball game), SNY (baseball game), and MSG Network (hockey game).  Non-sports channels play fine.  It seems to justify my theory that the frame rate is too low on the sports channels.
