Most likely your dish needs to be aligned, there are videos on youtube if you want to try it yourself otherwise you have to call DTV and setup a tech visit.

If it is an alignment issue, why are some hd channels fine and some only work in low res?

Because the channels come from different satellites, so a misalignment will affect some of them but not all.
