Channels DVR question with DirecTV

So, thinking of getting my mom an AppleTV and then some people here suggested Channels DVR. So thinking about that as well. So, how does this work exactly? Do we need to have a different type of DirecTV account to get this work? She just has a regular dish that goes to her DirecTV DVR/Satellite box right now. If I try to do this Channels DVR thing, it looks like we would have to pay Channels DVR $80/year or $8/month. Ok, that's fine. But then do we have to pay for a different DirecTV steaming account to work with Channels? And whats the situation with Channels not picking up all the channels that the regular DirecTV account gets? I heard people saying they had issues getting something as simple as CBS when using channels. Thats a problem because pretty much all the football games I watch are on CBS.

DTV has nothing to do with streaming services.  You need to connect the streaming devices to your TV or if your Smart TV can download the streaming service app you use that.  From what I see channel DRV is an app you need to download.  You need to go to their website.

Channels DVR will get you the same if not less than the app can currently give. Just get the DIRECTV app on your mother’s Apple TV. This doesn’t cost anything at all or require you to separately subscribe to a streaming service.

The reason Channels DVR doesn’t get all of the channels that you regularly get is because it only gets channels that have the TV EVERYWHERE functionality. On top of this, Channels DVR won’t get HBO, Showtime, STARZ, Cinemax, or any other premiums.

So, just get the DIRECTV app on your mother’s Apple TV, put in your DIRECTV satellite credentials into the app, and that’s it. It’ll work better than Channels DVR IMO because you get more channels as well as on-demand functionality. Once they resolve bugs within the app, you should be able to regain access to ALL channels from the DIRECTV app.

I also blocked user. Since I find this to be a worthwhile post (others could benefit from it), I have decided to keep the post in the satellite section. Usually, I’d put it in the ACE section.

Yeah, I used to block the user when this happened. But often the original question is valid, even if copied from Reddit. So now I usually just mark the "I got this" post as Spam since these folks never seem to come back.
