BYUtv in HD
Why doesn't DirecTV show BYUtv in HD? I know they are broadcasting in HD as I can watch the replays of the very same broadcast on ESPN+ after the fact, but when we watch live (or recorded) off of DirecTV it is in standard definition, which makes both football and basketball almost unwatchable now. (First-world problem) Is there anything we can do to get the channel upgraded to HD on our package?

Hi there @datxking! Thank you for reaching out.
You may want to customize the channel and hide the SD duplicate channel:
This may help the channel to remain in HD only while viewing your live games.

DIRECTV has an HD and SD version of most channels they offer. Some may have just an SD version, others will have just HD, and most will have both. The reason for this is because, from the start of DIRECTV, all channels were broadcast in MPEG-2 SD format on satellite 101. Now do know that they are phasing out this broadcast of SD channels soon, they just didn't do it before because SEVERAL customers still relied on SD equipment or had it for RV/airplane purposes.
Going back to your question, BYUtv is one of those channels that has only an SD MPEG2 broadcast. Therefore, DIRECTV does not offer an HD version. Ignore @DIRECTVhelp. they have a constant reputation of giving solutions that aren't necessary or won't make a difference/ thank you
