Care Code 204.5 Workaround Solution

I’m posting this because after I recently ran into error 204.5 and the problem when logging into networks’ apps and websites, I saw that I was not alone and this has been an ongoing problem that DirectTV has known about but has apparently never cared to fix. 

I understand your frustration. You can successfully log into your Direct TV account, no problem. You can’t use your same credentials to access networks’ apps or websites so that you can stream their content. Especially frustrating when you were able to do so before. 

I reached out to Direct TV about the problem, telling them I had already restarted, reset, cleared  cookies and history and all of the blah blah blah, but still nothing. They advised me to wait a full 24 hrs after the last password reset and assured me that it would work. Welp, it didn’t. Shocker.

After a lot of retrying, I figured something out that worked for me. First, preemptively open a tab in your browser to sign into your DirectTV account (on their website directly) AND CLICK THE BOX TO KEEP YOU LOGGED IN. When the network app you’re trying to use asks for you to log into your tv provider account using the same Direct TV login credentials, you shouldn't have to type in anything since you’re already logged in. Mine automatically moved on to the next step in the app’s signin process. This essentially helps you to bypass the page that is preventing people from moving forward and slapping you with the 204.5 error.

This worked when trying to use my DirectTV credentials to log into apps to stream on the tv and to watch on my computer using the network’s website. Both options make you authorize/login to your DirectTV account the same way.

I opened a second browser tab to follow the app’s tv provider process, so that I could be certain about staying logged in. Not sure if that’s necessary but it didn’t hurt.

This method worked for me and I hope it’s helpful to others who continue to patronize Direct TV/ATT. It shouldn’t be so challenging for something so simple and a service that you pay lots of money for. Good luck, no matter what!

@Harumph that sure is an interesting workaround. At first I assumed it was an issue with ad-blockers, firewalls, or VPNs. But, I stand corrected now that you found a solution. Thanks for sharing, it is truly appreciated to those who have asked for a resolution.

I am having this same issue and it is very frustrating!! While I appreciate the work around and I’m glad it worked, I still would rather watch the game from my Bally sports app on the tv and I’m not able to. PLEASE get this fixed soon!

I'll be glad to help you with this login issue. Let's work on a basic troubleshooting:

•Try to reenter your sign in credentials and try again.
•Restart the device you're using, and sing in again.

If you continue getting this error, you can also get help with your user ID

The workaround worked for me if I go through browsers and connect the provider but still can’t connect through the app. I use my phone for Bally all the time so I really would like this to work through the app again!

@kh041424 I’m sorry it didn’t work for you to connect your app! I know how annoying it’s been.

I was able to get the apps (I use a kindle fire stick) on my tv to connect this way because they still reroute you to confirm your tv provider the same way as you do logging into their website. It’s the same cursed sign in page that refuses to work. I use my phone to deal with the browser stuff for tv streaming apps too. 

Anyway, I hope it gets fixed or someone else can think of a better way that works for everyone. Good luck!

@DIRECTVhelp its not my username/password. I am able to login to my DIRECTV  account with no issues. Clearly this is an issue in y’all’s end since multiple people JUST started having the SAME EXACT ISSUE, probably at the same exact time. Whatever upgrade y’all may have done on the back end is broke and y’all need to fix it!
