Download Queue… Downloading from DVR recordings to an iPad.
I am trying to download TV shows that are on my DVR to my iPad. Many are not available because they are in the Download Queue. My auto repair is set to “on” which is recommended. It seems like many are “stuck” and aren’t preparing for download.
I learned that the app has to be on and active for shows to get “prepared for download” however, my iPad goes to sleep after so much time. Will that stop the process? If so, It is impossible to keep the Direct TV app on and active all the time and I will never be able to keep up with it. If it continues to prepare shows for download as long as the app is open in the background, how do I know it is actually doing what it is supposed to be doing? There are a lot of shows in the Queue, many of which I don’t want to download however I can’t find anyway to delete them from the queue. I’m thinking it won’t take as long if there aren’t as many shows sitting in the queue.
One last question…. When I click on the download queue at the bottom is says “manage series download”. When I click it, it says “there are no series set to auto download”. How exactly do I set up to set a series to “auto download?”
I have been extremely frustrated lately with this and could really use some answers.
Thanks!

Please try these steps to find everything about the recordings and how to set them up.

Hi!
Thanks for reaching out however, I watched the video and read your response and nothing in either related to the download queue, so I am still at a loss. I am not able to download recent shows even though they are recorded on my DVR because they seem to stay in the download queue forever (well at least days now that I’ve been trying).
Please pass along input on this issue of the download queue.

In this case, Apple has implemented a feature that turns off your Wi-Fi a few minutes after the screen turns off. This is to help save battery on the device. Apple devices complete downloading the program that is underway when the device screen turns off, but no other programs in the queue are downloaded.
What you could try is to turn off the Auto-Lock feature of the iPad on Settings > Display and Brightness > Auto-Lock, set to Never. We suggest to do this only if the device is plugged in.
Additional to this, once Auto Prepare is first turned on, you do not have the option to cancel preparations until auto prepare has completed for all existing recordings. Also, even once all the programs are prepared you cannot turn off preparation of a new program without turning off the Auto-Prepare feature. This can take a long time depending on the number of hours of recorded content on the Genie.
Please let us know how it goes.

Thanks I just went in and switched my auto lock to never. My iPad is plugged in so hopefully by the morning more shows will be ready to download.
Thanks, I will keep you informed.

So I left my iPad on all night with it always open to Direct TV app and I noticed that there was only 1 less show in the download queue than the night before (8 hours later). That doesn’t make sense to me and I still can’t download the shows I want to bc they are stuck in the queue. I manually set a couple shows to see if those would prepare first and they also still just sit there. I’m wondering will it ever catch up and let me just download shows because I can’t keep my iPad plugged in and open to the Direct TV app constantly?
I really want to be able to download from my DVR what I want when I want without having to wait like this.
Thanks!

In this case, we are converting the recordings from the format of your TV/DIRECTV receiver to your Mobile devices (Smartphones, iPads, etc.) because the format of the TV has to accommodate and fully download in this case in your apple device. The time frame this process take vary from show to show, device used, and the internet connection. In this case, it is normal for the queue to take that time to download each one of the titles.
We recommend you to keep using a stable WIFI connection for better results.

@DIRECTVhelp Can you reply to the chat you invited me to? You are not here 24/7, that is a joke.

I have never had trouble with my WiFi connection so I have to assume it is stable. So you are saying it can take 24 hrs for it it prepare one TV show for download? If that is correct the. Why wouldn’t it at least prepare the 2 TV shows that I set to auto prepare first?
Would resetting my box help maybe?

@clayer, thank you for reaching out again.
As the time frame this process takes vary from show to show, the device that is used, and the internet connection, you can definitely set the auto prepare for the 2 TV shows first.
You can do this by resetting your box or unplugging it for 60 seconds and plugging it back again, so the recordings can be refreshed.
Let us know how it goes.
Thank you.

Well I reset my box and it seems to have made all the difference. I have only 11 shows now waiting to prepare instead of like 35…. I’m no longer stuck in the download queue!! Yahoo. I’m assuming once they all are prepared for download the actual download part will b a breeze!
Thanks for staying with me on this issue! I hope this conversation can help someone else that is in the same spot I was!

I’m back…. :).
My iPad is now preparing the shows from my DVR for download but many of them I don’t want (they are my husbands shows for instance). Is there a way I can auto prepare only the shows I want? I know I can set it to download a series, but I don’t want to download every show either. I would like the shows I want to all “prepared” though in case I want to download them though. Also, can I set auto prepare to only prepare new shows and no reruns?
Thanks!

Hi Clayer, welcome back. It's a pleasure to assist you.
You can select the down arrow to start downloading the show or movie to your device, then tap My downloads and choose the show you want to watch, you should be able to select each show separately.
Please tell us if this helps clear out your concerns, we're here for you.
