Typically means your dish is not aligned. There are YouTube videos that show how to aim the dish. But you'll probably want to call for service visit.

Is the YouTube videos easy to follow?

99% of 771 is a dish alignment problem, there are videos on youtube if you want to try it yourself otherwise you have to call DTV to setup a tech visit $99 with a 90 day warranty.

We're here to help, @dgsw0709. Let's work together on a fix.

If you're seeing this error code, this means that the dish is not communicating with the satellite. Find out more details on how to troubleshoot it here.

Let us know how it goes.

775 is not communicating/no power to the SWM LNB.  771 is low/no signal.

I've aligned mine a couple times, it doesn't take much to change it quite a bit, so go slowly. This is something I saved from @litzdog911 sometime ago.

You want to see high 80's to 90s on 101, 99ca, 99cb, 103ca, and 103cb.  Some transponders will be low or zero, but that's OK.

Check out this video if you're setting up a dish ....

As shannon says, a 771 does NOT mean the receiver isn't connected to the dish. It means the signal is low (might even be zero). Spoom2's post explains what sort of signals you should see.

So if my signal strength are

99ca - 0 or mid 20s

99cb - 42 to 60 range

103ca - 39 to 61 range

103cb - 54 to 71 range

does this suggest my dish is out of alignment?  Frequent 771 codes even when no weather issues at all

I don’t believe I have a SWIM. I have 3 distinct HD receivers and they all have the same issue so I don’t believe it is a loose connection. I can not see any obstruction on the dish or in the area of the dish on the roof. Pretty frustrating to have this occur regularly for no apparent reason. Have been a customer for almost 20 years and this is the worst this issue has ever been.

Those signals are to low they need to be in the mid 80s.
