Errors galore after watching for the first time in a while
I can’t say when these problems started since it’s been a long time since I’ve used my directv (work busy, streaming shows elsewhere), but the parents came for a visit & there were issues.
First I encountered a 771 error code (signal loss). But it’s only for some channels (primarily local channels, espn, 249 is broke but 249-1 is fine). Both boxes are affected (so unlikely a cable issue like the troubleshooting website suggests).
We did have some rainstorms lately but nothing too bad. I don’t see anything getting in the way of the dish. Plus I would think if the dish was blocked it would be an all or nothing issue.
Then, as my folks were watching the news on a channel that did work, there was a clicking sound followed by the screen going black & the audio cutting out for a couple of seconds then resuming. The screen will say “an error has been detected & resolved.” (Since I haven’t had this issue with my other TV set, I’m thinking this might be a separate issue with my Panasonic plasma tv. )
Just to try I pressed the reset button on my box & it went through startup & all the checks. But still has issues with the same few channels.
When I went to the 771 troubleshoot website it said to call if there was an obstruction but I don’t see one.
Has anyone encountered a similar issue? Trying to figure out if I need to take a day off work to babysit a repair guy or not. Thx!

Yes, your satellite dish needs to be realigned since it seems that satellite 99 isn’t coming in too well. 249-1 is on satellite 103 so that is why you receive it better. Additionally, regular ESPN 206 is on satellite 99.
You need to call directv (number in my greeting below) to schedule a service visit for realigning the dish. If you have the Protection Plan then the visit is free of charge. Otherwise, it’s $99.
There are also YouTube videos online showing how to aim a dish. If you are a DIY’er and have access to the roof (safely) and your dish, you could try it. Let me know if you need the links to those videos.

I agree with detuch254. This is almost certainly a dish alignment issue. There are other more obscure issues that can cause the 771s but they are very unlikely.
