GameSearch launches inappropriately

GameSearch launches during a local news program and blocks out the program. It has nothing to do with a blacked out game. Switching channels and back to original allows us to watch the program but the problem occurs within minutes. This problem occurs with several local channels. Resetting the DIRECTV receiver didn't help. I searched the Forum but have not found an answer. Thanks.

Hi @humankind

This is an issue with the spot beams and the local channels that you are receiving. Ask DIRECTV to confirm that the billing and service address matches where you live and to resend authorization to the receiver and service.

Thanks. I will let you know if it works.

Thanks @detuch254

Since authorization sent, the local channel has been uninterrupted for about 20 minutes. If the problem doesn't recur in the next 24 hours, I will mark your answer accepted. I hope I get to fill out a survey. The representative, Whane, was exceptionally competent.

Unfortunately I can't mark the answer as accepted. The problem just recurred. Thanks for trying. Anyone else have an idea?

and please be specific with the local channels that have issues? (ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, PBS etc)

and also please tell me what town you live in so I can find a solution and check the current status of the channels. Thanks

Both receivers (I have 2). Atlanta, GA. We experience the problem on Channel 2 WSB ABC, and Channel 5, Fox. We haven't tried any other stations.

Ok @humankind thanks for the additional information. Have you tried making sure the billing and service address match your home location? Also, if you already have, I would recommend trying to ask CS (customer service) if you could have the DNS channels (9531, 9532, 9533, 9534) because your current ABC and FOX won't work. The DNS channels consist of CBS, NBC, FOX, and ABC.

This may work. I think you could try watching the SD version of ABC and FOX without having to call DIRECTV again. If SD channels aren't already showing, Simply go to Menu, Display, and there should be something that says "Hide SD Duplicates". Highlight that text and change it to "Show all channels." Then, go back into the Guide and select the SD version of ABC/FOX and post back here if your issue is resolved for NOW

detuch254. Under no circumstances can Directv give the OP the DNS channels because the FCC will NOT allow it!!  And watching the SD version of the channels does not solve the problem, only covers it up.

Billing address does not have to match current location but service address must. If it does not, then getting game search messages suggests the system is occasionally going to the wrong transponder. Could be a cable or LNB issue, or the receiver, or just a strange directv glitch. Try restarting the receiver and see if it goes away.

@TexasBrit the OP has stated that they have restarted the receiver several times with no luck. Also, refreshing authorization fixed the issue for 20 minutes but then it persisted. That leads me to believe that the system is in the wrong spot beam or something like that. If it was a dish misalignment or wiring issue, error 771/775 would occur.

I agree, it's by far the most likely problem. Only the OP can tell us. Although assuming it's an SWM system, there could be an obscure issue with the LNB where the SWM channels the OP's receiver is expecting suddenly get the wrong broadcast channels.

@TexasBrit thank you.

The OP can obviously have a SWM or NON-SWM system because the GameSearch function isn't a thing on the D11 and other SD receivers (non swm receiver) and therefore we can assume that the OP has either system.

We tried SD but the problem persisted.

I do have a SWM system. Could I call AT&T and schedule service technician to come out and see if the dish is misaligned or in the wrong spot beam? Just to clarify, would that be a spot beam for another city?
