Message say my TV has no Content Protection-- been working fine for years

Tried to watch a CNN program this morning via my Genie Mini in my office. I get a message saying my TV does not support Content Protection.  My setup has been working for many years now.  Going to my main LR TV connected to the Gennie HD receiver I can view the program fine. I refreshed and rebooted the mini but same problem occurs.

Unknown, but like I said this setup has been running fine for several years.

HDCP is software the content makers use to prevent copying their content and is updated periodically so DTV adds them to their software and then the TV has to be updated also.

shannon02, That could be the issue. I'm using a Dell U2913wm with a HDMI cable from the DTV mini. I searched the internet for a way to update the monitor firmware to no avail. Still looking.

That's a monitor not a TV, and its no longer available from Dell. It's designed to connect to laptops not TVs. . Most monitors are not guaranteed to support the HDCP copy protection protocol as it evolves.

Thanks for the help. I am aware its a monitor and one that I have been using this way  for years. The specs say it does support HDCP. But as you pointed out the HDCP std may have been updated.  I did find a way to update the monitor firmware which I will try tomorrow. If that does not work I guess I'm (Edited per community guidelines) and will have to use an actual TV. My  desk is very cluttered as it is....

Try the monitor in the LR to make sure you have the same problem.

I did. The LR setup is a Sony LCD TV with HDMI direct to the main Gennie DVR. It works fine.

I need to add here that I can view protected content, that is movies steamed from Amazon on my monitor but not from Directv. Also, the issue applies to all content even CNN news programs from Directv.

The receivers outputs are shut down when the HDCP is broken.

Your receiver does not care if the content is actuall;y protected. If the HDCP "breaks", the outputs are shut down.

Thanks for the clarification,, very helpful. Still wondering though, why I can view new movies (assuming that they are HDCP protected) from other streaming services such as Amazon?

Because you are not going through the directv box. Amazon is not using the same handshake.

You are missing the point. Why is Amazon streaming not seeing my monitor as being HDCP broken but Directv box is? Could it be that my monitor supports HDCP as it always had and Directv is broken? I've pretty much decided to terminate Directv....

No, I am not missing the point. HDCP is implemented in all sorts of ways. Streaming systems don't necessarily work the same way as linear systems.The directv HDCP system is not getting the response it expects from the monitor on startup. Maybe its a data issue, maybe it's a timing issue. HDCP implementation has always been a mess. Sometimes rebooting the client will solve the problem. Sometimes making sure the monitor is switched on before the client will solve the problem.
