repeatedly overcharging elderly (91) for months,

HI,  my mother is 91 and lives alone,  for months DirectTV has charged her $270 and once $404 for the crappiest plan,  minimal basic service.  I think it's around 70 channels, nothing premium.  We've called and the bill was placed at $160/mo in July 2022.  That is what i was paying in Florida when i cancelled 4 yrs ago and went to YouTube TV.   Half the price 2 x the enjoyment.

Multiple attempts to reach these people and this continues.

We've made it clear that this customer is elderly and I think it's an internal unspoken policy to continue to do this to prey on the elderly and racking up huge bills.  Pathetic

I completely understand if no one wants to opine,  i have all the bills, notes from telephone calls, and all chat history saved.  A reputable company never deletes chat history.   Based on recent experience with Direct TV  not too sure they can be trusted.

Not a great Christmas present for sure.

Thanks

Unless the bill was way passed due, it seems quite odd for the bill to randomly skyrocket to $400 in one month. I suggest you check the bill and see what changed in that month. Additionally, a method of reaching an ‘educated’ agent is calling DIRECTV (number in my greeting below) and saying ‘cancel’ to the robot to be sent to the loyalty/retention department. If after many calls a solution isn’t made, you file a BBB complaint.

As we are customers just like you on a public forum, we cannot assist much with your billing issue.

You have the bills? They should clearly state what the charges are for. $270 is ridiculously high and $404 is even crazier. No way that is for “minimal basic service”. She has to be getting charged for something else. Are there any pay per view charges? In any event, your accusation that she is being preyed upon because of her age is very serious. I personally don’t believe that but if do believe it, you should file a complaint with the appropriate government agency.
