Resolution with Gemini Box

Quick question. Before when I was using the Genie mini boxes with DTV by Satellite, it was upconverting the 720p to 1080i. Now with the Gemini box (with DTV by Satellite) when I check to see what signal my TV is receiving it shows 1080p. So is the Gemini now upconverting everything to 1008p. Also in the video settings on the Gemini the option to select multiple resolutions at the same time, is gone.

Right. Note that most all broadcast and "cable" channels in HiDef use either 720p or 1080i resolution. The box can upconvert. And some TVs will upconvert even more to 4K.

Hello there. Regarding Gemini screen resolution, I can confirm our equipment supports: MPEG-4 AVC single, dual, or quad display up to 1080i60/1080p30 and UHD/4K. This means that you can enjoy your favorite programming at the best resolution according to your TV device.

The TV compatibility for our Gemini is:

  • HD and 4K TV's with HDMI 2.0 & 1.4
  • HDCP 2.2, 60 Hz
  • Capable of 4K, 1080p, and 3D

You can change to a different resolution by selecting: Settings, System: DISPLAY and Screen resolution. To further assist you in setting your screen resolution, please check your PM. We're sending you a message. Erika, DIRECTV Community Specialist

Thanks but that wasn't what I was asking.  The Genie box up converts 720p to 1080i, when I check what resolution is being displayed with the Gemini box it shows it's upscaling it to 1080p.

Yes, Gemini boxes can output 1080p. Is that causing you any problems?

So it's up converting 720p to 1080P so it's not really 1080p.
