Tablet app not working with DVR when logged onto the same home network.

Tablet app not working with DVR when logged onto the same home network.  Can setup recordings from the tablet but won't let me view channels the DVR gets or view the recordings. (All are logged into the same home network.)  Won't let me validate the DVR's I have in two different rooms.  Makes no sense to advertise you can watch your Directv on your tablet or phone.  Also keeps you from using the remote control feature on the tablet app.  Had no issues with being able to use the tablet until a couple of weeks back June 18th.  Keep being told engineers are working on the issue.  Need credit back for not be able to use all services.

Keep being told engineers are working on it is getting a little old.  You took away the use of watching your DVR outside of the home network and now taking away the in-home network use but the cost of less service keeps going up!! go figure!!

What DVR model do you have? What app are you currently using with the tablet? Has this ever worked in the past? Is external devices enabled in the Whole Home menu of Settings for the DIRECTV DVR?

HR54 & HR44 the newest app oh Directv on the Go. Yes, before June 18th used it almost every weekend. Yes, all are enabled. As I said I can schedule recordings from the tablet.

Hello, @lstewart3 your post has caught our attention.

We want to make sure you can enjoy the DIRECTV service and all of its features.

What is the tablet's model you're using to access the DIRECTV On The Go App? We'd like to check further on this issue.

You can’t have two Genie HD DVR receivers on one account. You must mean the HR54 and HR24? Or HR44 and HR24?

In either case, try a red button reset on the Genie receiver (front where it says ‘PUSH’ or right side for HR54 series). If that does nothing, verify that both the tablet and receiver are connected to the same network.

As a side note, only the HR44/HR54 allow the viewing of DVR content on a device. All other receivers do NOT support this feature.

There is a bug in the newest app, you need to use the old to go app.

The tablet is a Samsung Galaxy Tab S2. As I said before I was accessing the DVR with no issues until a couple of weeks ago. The app version is 5.29.002.

Yes, I have two DVR’s. One is a HR54 and the second is HR24. Yes, the HR54 is the one I would view from. I have reset both the DVR and re-installed the app. As I said earlier, I can program the DVR for recordings from the tablet. That means I can connect through the home network.

No it doesn't, setting up recordings from the app or website uses the sat feed.

Thanks for confirming this to me. I'm sorry for the experience with this, I'd like to share that since the DIRECTV app was recently changed, we're still working to have some updates and features, that's why right now that feature is temporarily unavailable, but it will be back in the future. Your DVR recordings are still available via your DIRECTV Genie and will be available with your app in the future to enjoy it as you usually do. Maria, DIRECTV Community Specialist
10:12 pm
What do you mean in the future?? I keep losing more features and nothing seems to matter about the advertising. That means the app is worthless and now I can't use my tablet to watch my local channels.
10:15 pm
I would watch my tablet outside on the deck or at my hot tub table when sitting in my hot tub.

I can get your point with this and the idea is to provide you the accurate information as you deserve. Keep in mind that I'm referring only to watch the DVR content using DIRECTV app. You should be able to watch live TV, shows and movies on demand, including your local channels. Maria, DIRECTV Community Specialist
10:25 pm
That's the issue, I can't as the app won't validate my DVR to watch the local channels. you can call me at 719-439-5913 and i can explain.

Got it. In that case, could you please share a screenshot of the error message or error code that you get when try to watch your local channels? Maria, DIRECTV Community Specialist

This is what I get for TV channels through the app.
10:39 pm
This is what is available for me on the tablet through the app. No local channels.
10:40 pm
Everything I could see live for the TV was available Live TV to watch on the tablet.

Two weeks ago you could see the listing of remote controls for the two receivers that I have. One was the Livingroom & Second was the Den.
10:50 pm
This is what I get when i try to validate the one in the Livingroom. This is for the HR54 DVR. Two weeks ago it would be Green showing "Enabled".

Thanks for sharing this helpful information. And what about if you try to use the search bar for your local channels when using the app to stream your local channels?
10:54 pm
I've reset both DVR's. I reset my Home Network. I've reset the network connections at the DVR's. I've restarted my tablet as well as reloaded the Directv app. Nothing has worked to get the tablet and the DVR's to communicate between each other on the network. i can ping all the devices successfully.

Thanks for confirming. In that case, could you please confirm if it is the same issue if you try to watch the local channels using DIRECTV on the Go app? Maria, DIRECTV Community Specialist
11:17 pm
No, when trying to watch on the tablet it will not show the local channels to pick from. Look at the screen that shows that above. But I can set the DVR to record it using the app on my tablet..

I appreciate the information, let me help clear things up. Please keep in mind there are 2 different apps: "DIRECTV on the Go" app, and the new "DIRECTV" app. You're using now the latest DIRECTV App, and I'd like to confirm what happens if you try to use the DIRECTV on the Go app to watch your local channels. Maria, DIRECTV Community specialist
11:35 pm
Are you telling me that I need to delete the current app that I'm using and download the on the go? I show on the store "DIRECTV on the Go" and the second one that I'm using says "DIRECTV on the go for Tablets".

That's correct. Nevertheless, I'd like to confirm first what happens if you try to watch local channels now using the search bar. Maria, DIRECTV Community Speciaist
12:08 am
I tried installing the other on the go app and it says it's for a phone but I tried to see what happens and I get the same result. If I use the search bar for the local KRDO 13 ABC channel it says that I can't view it on the tablet for it is not streaming. I have to watch it on the TV. So the long and short of it is, unless it can be streamed I can't watch any local channels on the tablet anymore. Which in essence means the local channels have to be watched on my TV unless they start streaming with Directv. It's not worth having Directv anymore as now I can't watch anything local outside unless I put a TV outside with a wireless genie box. I thought technology was to get better instead you guys have made a huge step backwards. Sorry I will be seeking my service elsewhere.
