Trying to watch programs while away from home
In the past, I have been able to access programs or shows when away from home, on a smart tv, logging in with my DirecTV account. Now, I can't. Has something changed? I have DirecTV satellite at home.

Nothing has changed. DIRECTV satellite never allowed you to stream channels via an app on a smart TV/streaming device before. The main reason is so that the customer pays $7/mo per TV rather than bypassing this issue by getting an app.
The only way to view channels is by downloading the channel’s own app and signing in with TV EVERYWHERE functionality. If the channel does not have this functionality, you can’t watch/view it.

What I have been able to do before, is if I am somewhere away from home, and want to watch something, lets say on ESPN.com, on a smart tv, I could log in with my directv credentials. I don't know if I'm explaining it right, but what I used to be able to do, I can't do any more. I get an error code that says, looks like you've tried to log in unsuccessfully too many times.

Yes, I understand. You used the ESPN app and signed in with your DIRECTV credentials. There was never such thing as a DIRECTV app for streaming devices.
This error means that there were too many password attempts. Now, the account is locked. You’ll need to reset your password online at DIRECTV.com or call (number in my greeting below). When calling, tell the robot ‘sign-in help’ to be sent to the sign-in help department.
