It's cloud storage, so the content is available on any supported device that has the DirecTV Stream app.

What exact ‘features’ are you referring to? As far as being able to punch in channel numbers and easily access the Guide, it isn’t as easy with a smart TV. Also, if that smart TV happens to be a Samsung, those have atrocious performance and are not recommended at all. You are better off getting an additional stream box or otherwise a streaming stick like a Fire Stick, Roku, or Apple TV.
