Cannot get Directv stream to load

I have reset the router. Reset the connect to the TV. Logged out of Directv stream and back in. It won’t load. It looks like it is going to load showing the name of the show that should load up but it just sits there.

All other apps are loading on the tv. It is only an issue with directv stream.

Okay got it added back and seems to work but I hope we aren’t starting the endless cycle of this crap we had back in the summer.

I will note however that my library won’t load properly still so I can’t watch recorded shows. So tired of all the problems with this app.

I'm having the same problem with Roku -- I already reported this in a previous post, but no help & the problem seems to be getting worse.  I can stream sometimes, but most of time the show will just seem to buffer endlessly (never starting). I can navigate the menu but if I try to watch anything I recorded it kicks me out of the app.

I have a very similar problem with a Roku.  It seems to depend on what channel I was last watching on a different set.  I have not had to to experiment to see if it is a block of channels or just one.

If I navigate to the DVR, the program crashes out and I can restart it.  Then I can load the channel.

The program starts fine 100% of the time if the last viewed is one that DTV seems to like.

I wasted a lot if time with a very unproductive on-line chat and DTV blamed Roku.  I don't believe it.

For me, it seems that if DirecTV is the first app I start after I turn on my tv it streams fine, as long as the tv has been off for awhile.  I have a Roku tv set -- so basically everything on it is a Roku app.   But if I use another app first (Netflix, Youtube, etc.), or if I leave the DirecTV app to watch something else and then come back to DirecTV to watch -- the problem recurs.  I've learned to always, always check for app updates on Roku before entering DirecTV as that does seem to help on occasion.  I did the delete & reinstall app thing but the problem persisted and I'm not going to do that again, because it's a pain to reenter the password on Roku.  Roku isn't giving me an easy code I can enter into a browser anymore -- if I want to reconnect an app I need to type out the full password.

It certainly could be tied to changes in Roku, but I don't have this issue with other streaming apps -- just DirecTV - so basically there's some sort of conflict happening.  If I was seeing this issue on a web browser with a website, I'd clear my browser cache and cookies --- so I'm wondering if something similar is going on with the DirecTV app.

You may want to check what happens if you use different channels before you exit the DTV app.

I'll do some more experimenting.

I did a little more experimenting.  I found that the problem manifests itself if the last channel viewed is:

354 - Cheddar News

355 - CNBC

360 - Fox News

Also found no problem if last channel viewed is:

264 - BBC America

282 - Animal Planet

I don't think this is a big enough sample to really say this, but so far, the 300 series channels have issues and the 200 do not.  My locals are also OK.

Suggest that you tune in these channels, exit the app, wait a while and select the app again just to see if we are seeing the same issue.

Well, that's interesting.  I don't watch most of the channels you listed, but it just happened that last channel I had viewed was BBC America and I could not watch it when I started the app.  Same problem as I described before -- the stream simply wouldn't load.

However, I was able to navigate to the program guide and I found that I could access LOCAL channels (single digit numbers)  So I tried the local PBS affiliate - it played; then navigated back to BBC - still stuck.

But then, following your advice, I went back to the PBS channel, watched a couple of minutes of the cooking show, and then left the app. Then I went back to the app -- PBS playing -- and switched to the BBC channel.... and voila, it was working.

So it's a mystery to me, but if this hack continues to work, then I thank you for figuring it out!

Based on this I think it's got to be a Directv thing, not a Roku thing. I'm speculating that Directv has some sort of token set needed to maintain the stream, which is different with some categories of channels than others, and might depend on the specific plans we have.  They would need something like that to distinguish between premium (extra cost) channels and the general offerings for the basic plan subscribers -- I'm guessing that is where things are getting buggy.

@aminca - Well I am glad that you validated what I am seeing.  In my earlier post, I just picked a few random channels to make sure I could duplicate the issue.

To thinken the plot even further, I have three Rokus and only one has this problem.  It is a different model and probably the same as or similar to what is imbedded in your TV.  The other thing is that the problem child worked perfectly for quite a while and then started doing this.  It was probably due to a software update either from Roku or DTV.

I don't know how to actually get to DTV and someone who can address this, but I did chat.  After the chat, I started looking at what my other streaming options were.

The chat was horrible.  I would type something and 15 minutes later someome at the other end would respond.  Then I would type something else and a different chat operator would respond 15 minutes later.  After about an hour and half of doing this, I typed something like "this is getting nowhere - are you understaffed or super busy or what?"  Then I got a snotty answer back that it has to be my Roku.

The amazing thing about this is that I am generally an extremely patient person.

I feel like I was treated like an (Edited per community guidelines).  What the operators didn't know is that I have worked with computers, coding, applications, programming controllers, CNC machines, robotics, and all that kind of stuff since 1967.  Fortunately I am retired now.

All I can say is that this is one of the few problems I have had, and I am not impressed.

I could probably replace the Roku with a different model, but I know that you can't.

DTV needs to get their act together.

I also have a history of the Directv app working without any issues on my Roku TV until very recently -- and I have been streaming Directv for ages, through several generations of name changes. (First, it was Directv, then it was ATT Now, and now it's Directv again).

And I've had the Roku TV for about 5 years so -- but Roku does push out updates. It's currently running version 11.0.0 Build 4193

Apparently there is a later version of Roku (version 11.5) -- but it hasn't rolled out to me yet.  My system shows that it checked for updates today, but that the last Roku update was in May.

And my Roku is running V11.5.0 build 4235.  Actually, ai checked it around Thanksgiving.  I don't think it has updated since then.

It may be dependent on the hardware version.  Mine is a Roku Streaming Stick+  (3810X)

Mine is a Sharp Roku TV.  I have no idea of the model number.

@aminca
Heya - The isssue has seemingly gotten worse.  Checking the DTV info, it appears that even though the version has stayed constant at 3.31, the build number has gone from 3410105 to 3440103.  Don't know when it changed, but it is harder to deal with today.
