Can't record local stations
My husband and I recently moved and had AT&T/Direct TV Stream installed in our home. We have been unable to record and programs on network TV -- NBC, Fox, CBS, ABC, Univision. All other stations appear to be working properly. We are trying to use Cloud DVR.
Any advice?

I agree that it is really nonsensical to block the recordings because of the zip mismatch. If there is some issue with you being in the wrong zip you'd think they would have just blocked the channels. If they let you watch, they should let you record, IMHO.
And at very least, their customer service staff should be trained with the correct answer when asked.

I would if it was a permanent move. But we have 2 houses and spend months at a time in each. Our billing address remains in Pensacola... our primary home. The other home is in Sarasota.

And once again the issue was customer's fault. Happens a lot on this forum! lol

You know, I might buy that the answer if I had known to go in and change my billing address when I went on vacation. However, before we ordered the system and before we came to our second home for the holidays I contacted customer service and specifically asked if I had to change my address with them when I go to the other house. The answer in both cases was a very definite no, that the system would figure out our based on the location I was using it in and would work just fine. Neither was trained to tell me that recording on the new locals was not allowed. And obviously this happens to many people, so maybe some training or a faq is in order.

Same for me. Problem just started a few days ago. I have the DirectTV Stream box. Zipcode 90232. Really annoying. All local channels will NOT record anymore even after reseting the box. Prob gonna switch to Spectrum since too expensive for service that doesn't work. I'm sad.
UPDATE: Not sad anymore! I went on my DirectTV Stream account and after digging through multiple screens saw that they had the wrong mailing address for my credit card payment on file. I had updated my address with customer service when I moved but they didn't tell me this was buried somewhere on their website and that would also need to be changed. Long story longer...I changed it to my current address/zipcode and then turned on my DirectTV Stream box and can now record my local channels again. What a relief. You might need to be Sherlock Holmes to figure this out like I had to but it did work. Just go into your Account online then find your form of payment (I had a credit card on file already) and when I clicked "Edit" there it was the wrong old address. This is the only place on their website where I even saw an option to change your home address which is weird but it did work. Hope this helps others with the same issue. :)

mmtn52 You are a genius! Your advice worked like a charm! Billing zip code on your payment method must match your location zip code. I too have two homes. I changed the address on one credit card then updated my payment method and it magically worked.

My only problem with Directv Stream is related to this problem. While traveling it is impossible to record anything from network local channels. In the past, while traveling the local channels always showed the home locals. Seems this was changed at some point and hopefully will be changed back.

If you have one of their controller boxes you can turn off the function that checks your location. It will then give you the locals for the zip code on the credit card you use for payment and you will then be able to record as well. You will still not be able to see our record of your home channels on your phone app or pc app, etc as they do check your physical location. You can still watch any of your recordings from any device.

But not being able to set a recording on your phone while away from home is the problem. It was not like this originally and needs to be fixed.

I just had ATT Fiber Internet installed today, and I also purchased Direct TV stream today ( i am only using the app, i do not have a box). I am currently unable to record anything, local or national channels. I am not receiving an error code. The only thing that pops up is "Programming not available, This program is not available to record."
PLEASE HELP

I posted the following a while back. Maybe it will help with your issue.
I called Tech Support yesterday and the guy I spoke to was finally very helpful. He said the problem is that your set top Box tracks your physical location While the billing address in your account has your Billing zip code in it.. When those 2 zip codes do not match up the local channels at the zip code that is not your billing zip will not allow you to record. There is a work around if you have a set top Box. Go to settings and Look for system, general, locations. You want to toggle off the locations. Once you do that, reboot the settop Box. That will put you back to your original local channels at your Billings zip. You can now go to your local channels and set up to record anything you want. I do this periodically with a list in hand of shows I want to record for the next couple of weeks. I set them all to record. Once you've done that, toggle the location setting back to on, and reboot the set top Box. Now when you go to watch the local channels at your actual location you will still not be able to record, but you will be able to watch anything that you had set up to record going forward when you were working on the set top Box with the location off. The apps that you may have on phones and devices do not allow you to toggle location off so this work around only works if you have at least one set top Box.. If you Have 2 set top boxes, you could theoretically set one with location on and 1 with location off.. Then you could watch your actual geographic locals on 1 Box and if you found something you wanted to record you could go to the other TV on the other Box and give the record command on your old local channels from home. The Only other way to pull all this off is to change the billing zip code on your account with directv stream. The only place I found where you can change it is in the app by changing the credit card I'm using for billing to a card where the billing zip is the same as my new local geographic location. That can be a problem if you don't have 2 different cards that bill to 2 different zip codes because continually changing the billing address on your credit card is a real hassle. We have just 1 box. Everything else works off Rokus or the apps.. I hope that helps and that I wasn't too unclear. If you have follow up questions, just holler.

@mmtn52 the previous post already said they don't have a set top box--they have an Apple 4k tv.

But they can still change the billing zipcode in the app on case that is want is causing the problem. The billing zip had to match the gps zip for you to be able to record locals.
