CBS recorded program has no closed captions

For some reason, no CBS programs that are recorded have closed captions available.  If the same program is watched live, it has captions.  If the same program is watched on demand, it has captions.  All other recorded programs, any channel, have closed captions available when watching via My Library.  It's just CBS programs.

Hi @gostrongs, happy to help with your closed caption concern.

Let's work together to cover all possible root causes. Please, reset your DIRECTV equipment and refresh the service. Then, try to set up the closed captions feature again.

Hello,

This is direct stream so no equipment to speak of other than various roku devices.  As I mentioned, the closed captions are working fine.  They work for live viewing, on demand, and any recorded programming EXCEPT when a CBS program is recorded.  The CBS captioning works fine during live viewing, fine with on demand, but does not work for any CBS recorded programs.

Now if we can just figure out why nothing I record on CBS has them...............

It's scheduled recordings that do not have captions.  If I go to CBS, then hit record on the program, then go and play it back, the captions are there.  It's scheduled CBS recordings, all of them.

What device are you using? Have you also tried to watch those CBS shows in the on demand area? Check if the captions work there.

From my initial post "The CBS captioning works fine during live viewing, fine with on demand, but does not work for any CBS recorded programs."

4 different Roku devices on 4 different TVs and also a Direct Stream box itself.  Captions don't really have anything to do with a playback device.  Captions are part of the broadcast stream and are obviously there because they work during live viewing, and during a program recorded by going to it and hitting record.  It's just scheduled recordings, for all CBS programs, or at least those I've set to record as a series, which is more than half a dozen.

Normally I wouldn't care and would just watch them on demand but there is no fast forwarding with on demand.

I have a sideloaded Android tv box, Directv stream box and firestick. Captions are working fine on all of them with CBS scheduled recordings. Odd you are having this issue. Sorry I missed that on demand mention in the original post

Hi gostrongs,

I am now having this same issue in the Charlotte area.  Did you ever get this resolved?  If so, do you know what the resolution was?  In either case, what area are/were you having this problem in.  I ask because Tampa was also having this identical issue but it was resolved after the local CBS affiliate placed a call to DirectTV streaming but does not know what they did.

Unfortunately, I do not know what the resolution was but one day, they just started appearing in recorded content.  I'm in upstate NY, Albany area.

Thanks for the response!  Strange how only CBS and only random affiliates and random customers among those affiliates.  In Tampa there were 4 reports that I knew of and then the station had employees that were able to confirm the issue.  One call to DirectTV and the next day the issue was resolved but no explanation.  Here in Charlotte where I am the only person so far that has reported the problem they talked with the Tampa station, then called DirectTV but no resolution yet.

It was very strange.  It was obvious the captioning stream was there because watching the content any other way was fine.  Almost like the stream was different with a scheduled recording.

My system is now working correctly.  I also do not know what the solution was.  I agree with you that what we were watching live seems to be a different stream from what was being recorded as the closed captioning was not encoded in the recording.
