CBS recorded program has no closed captions
For some reason, no CBS programs that are recorded have closed captions available. If the same program is watched live, it has captions. If the same program is watched on demand, it has captions. All other recorded programs, any channel, have closed captions available when watching via My Library. It's just CBS programs.

I don't have closed caption on CBS, either...doesn't matter if it's live, recorded or scheduled record. It does however work with on demand viewing only. I have DirecTV stream & have 2 Samsung smart TVs, no box or Roku or anything like that. Both TVs are DirecTV stream compatible. I had closed caption on CBS until about a month ago. Now the only thing that appears on CBS with closed caption turned on is a musical note 🎵, when there is music & no dialog during a program... no letters or words are shown. All other subscribed channels have closed caption, no matter whether they are live or recorded.
Does anyone know why this is? Do I have to call tech support or is there an explanation or fix?

Your problem is a little different in that your captions don't work at all except for on demand. Mine was they worked for everything except scheduled recordings. I never did find out what the problem was, they just started working one day shortly after I posted here. Maybe some employee sees these and they get it fixed in the background, just don't admit to it.

Hi,
I had called my local station and they called Direct TV streaming. It took them two calls but then Direct TV did something that resolved the issue. The same thing happened in another local market and probably what happened with gostrongs area as well although it was not gostrongs that made the call in this case. Or maybe or gostrings said Direct TV did fix it themselves in his case. It can affect several in an area as it did in Tampa or only one as it did in my area. I worked with Direct TV twice, once online through the forum and once on the phone. Both times they blamed CBS which is why I called my local station. Good luck!

@CraigPSU the reason why closed captioning won't work is an issue with your local CBS station, nothing on DIRECTV STREAM's behalf. Think of it like this. Whatever CBS sends DIRECTV STREAM, DIRECTV STREAM will use. If no closed captioning is given or there is an issue with captioning, DTV STREAM can't do anything about it and the local CBS station must be notified. I'm glad you were able to get it worked out.

detuch254, gostrongs & CraigPSU,
Thanx for your response! I sent our local CBS affiliate an email describing the issue & will wait for a response. If I get none, I will call them. Appreciate the help!

detuch254,
Why would this only occur with one or only a few customers, and only with Direct TV streaming and no other service? Also with both my local station and the one in Tampa, they did not do anything to resolve the issue except contact Direct TV streaming.

detuch254, gostrongs & CraigPSU,
So, after reaching out to KDKA, CBS Pittsburgh, this was the reply I got from the Closed Caption Director...
Thank you for bringing this concern to our attention.
I have access to DIRECTV DSS (satellite dish) service, and can confirm that closed captions are present, which means we are successfully feeding captions to DIRECTV. They distribute their Stream product from the same inbound source, so I am inclined to think the issue is with them.
Your best bet is to contact DIRECTV and explain the problem. Since we haven’t heard of this issue from anyone else, it could be something with the DIRECTV equipment at your home, or something with their distribution signal to customers.
Please let me know what you find, and feel free to reach out if there is anything I can do to help.
So, I guess I need to call DirecTV & see what they say since nobody from DirecTV has addressed these current thread entries.
Thanx again y'all for your help & replies!
