Chat Support

Has anyone been able to connect to DirecTV support via chat? I tried to start a chat 5 hours ago but there's still no response.

I wanted to ask if DirecTV supports the watchTVanywhere service, which is needed to authenticate on some network apps.

Chat may just be busy to respond. Both services, DirecTV Satellite and DirecTV Stream support many "anywhere" apps.

OK. WTVE is sort of a nonstandard broadcaster app. Looking at the list of providers, there is really no major provider such as Comcast or Spectrum, etc listed. Not surprised.

The problem is that NBC wants to use watchTVeverywhere to verify access.

Mine don't. Can't imagine why, since no major provider is listed. Never heard of that access anyway.

DirecTV finally answered my chat request 9 1/2 hours later. By then I was no longer checking for a response.

@whboyd

What networks were you trying to log into that needed this watchTVanywhere authentication? The original term was called the TV EVERYWHERE functionality, so this ‘watchTVanywhere’ is new news to me.

Like I wrote in an earlier post, the NBC app wants to authenticate using WTVE.

I don't know about the app, but the site authenticates regularly as far as I can tell: https://www.nbc.com/mvpd-picker

Can you attach a picture of the screen you are seeing?

Here's what I see:

When I cancelled that screen I was offered a screen of providers, including DirecTV. When I picked that and logged in, I saw this, possibly due to an ongoing contract dispute between DirecTV and Tegna, the owner of the local NBC station.

Yes, that NBC error is likely due to the dispute with Tegna. Once the dispute is resolved, the app should work as intended. You can check your ZIP code here to ensure that there truly is a loss of NBC in your area:

What device are you using, by the way?

I was trying to use the NBC app on an iPhone.

I just don't understand why or how you are being directed to that "anywhere" site. I have tried on multiple devices and the "NBC app" provider selection has DirecTV Stream as a selection under the provider list. Then it takes ne to the DirecTV Stream site to authenticate. When you download the app and select provider, does DirecTV Stream appear in the list?

When I launched the app and selected something to watch, the watchTVanywhere sign-on was the first thing I saw. When I cancelled that I was shown a list of providers, including DirecTV. (No "Stream" qualifier.) Now that I've signed in as a DirecTV user, it's telling me that a "geographical restriction" prevents me from watching it.

So you have DirecTV Satellite service not DirecTV Stream service. They are 2 different subscription services.
