Chromecast with Google TV

Can you install the DirecTV Stream app into the Chromecast with Google TV?  I don't want to have to "cast" my phone to the device. I want to have the app installed on it.

I don't want to spend 40$ or 50$ on the Chromecast with Google TV and find out that I can't download and install the DirecTV Stream app on it.

Or do I have to buy a Roku or Fire Stick?

Just bought a Roku... Can't wait to get it hooked up soon and see how it works.

Hey  @PalmS

As a Samsung user I can give you a few tips to minimize some of the App issues.

1. In your Router settings place your TV's IP address to static.

2. In your Router place your TV's IP address in the DMZ

3. On your Samsung TV Settings enter your TV's IP address.

4. On your Samsung TV Settings set your TV's DNS Server to Obtain Manually and use the DNS Address of 8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4.4

In your Router place your TV's IP address in the DMZ

Expose every port on your TV to every hacker who tries your Internet address.  I'm sure there won't be any issues with that.

Perhaps.  But I think it's important to provide proper security context when telling people to setup non-standard configurations. Especially when those non-standard configurations probably won't change the situation.

#4 was a good suggestion: for reasons I do not understand, Samsung TVs have always appeared to struggle doing much of anything when using AT&T's DNS servers (and assuming the ISP is AT&T).  #1 and #2 are, IMHO, not applicable and #2 has security implications.  #3 is only required because/if you did #1.
