Data use with direct tv streaming
We go rving and want to use internet for streaming. Direct tv seems like a good choice. Data usage could be a problem. Should we go with satellite or streaming?

Streaming does indeed take up a lot of data since it is constantly receiving new audio and video from DIRECTV STREAM servers. To be true, it all depends on the channels you want and how much you would be willing to pay each month. While DIRECTV STREAM does not require a price hike, HD and DVR fees, or receiver access fees, DIRECTV would not use up your data.
If you decided on DIRECTV satellite, you would need installation of the dish at your home and you would need to buy your own dish and power inserter to take with you in the RV. DIRECTV will not assist you with this. The receiver you would take in the RV would have to be a standalone box or Genie HD DVR, it cannot be a simple Genie client receiver because clients require the presence of a Genie HD DVR to work. When ordering DIRECTV satellite, you
should be specific about getting the HR44 or HR54 receiver and NOT the new HS17 because if you were to get the HS17, you wouldn’t be able to activate any standalone boxes on the account.
Do take note as well that DIRECTV satellite requires a two year contract and the price hike/fees make it a lot more expensive than DIRECTV STREAM. In the long run, if buying a streaming box and paying extra for data a month costs less than DIRECTV satellite, you may want to think more about DIRECTV STREAM. You just need to crunch some numbers together and find what works for you.
