DirecTV Satellite or DirecTV Stream service?

A DirecTV Satellite DVR/Receiver or DirecTV Stream box will work fine with your LG TV. But there's no native DirecTV App available that runs inside the LG TV. Only Samsung TVs have the app for DirecTV Stream service.

And, if you have DirecTV Stream service, you can use many other streaming devices, like Roku, FireStick, Apple TV, etc.

Thanks for the reply.  I am going to use the streaming DirecTv service with a DirecTv box.  My LG tv came with ROKU installed and I have an external ROKU device available.  Any suggestions as to the best hookup method ??

You don't really need a DirecTV Stream box if you have a Roku Streaming Device. Any streaming device, including DirecTV's own Stream box, simply connects to one of your LG TV's HDMI inputs. Connect the device to your home WiFi and you're good to go.

We are new to streaming (old folks) and my cable company (Spectrum) has become uncooperative in keeping our bill acceptable to us.  We are trying to stay as close to the 'cable look' as possible..... hence the box plan with two remotes in our family room.  Now I'll be able to install the ROKU on a different TV (Vizio) in my wife's craft room.

Any advice you can offer is greatly appreciated.  I'm sure there will be a learning curve to get comfortable with the new arrangement.  So far we anticipate a $70/  month savings.  We're getting Frontier FIOS 500 mbps internet and landline to replace Spectrum also.  ONWARD INTO THE FUTURE !!!

Thanks again.

That makes sense. Your user experience with the DirecTV Stream box will be very similar to the cable boxes you're familiar with. When you order your DirecTV Stream service, look to see if they're still offering the $49 deal for the boxes. Otherwise they're $120. Your Frontier 500Mbps internet will be ideal!

DTV boxes are $120 new / $49 refurb currently.  A new remote is less than $20 on eBay.  I think we can program 2 remotes to the box.  I read it can be done.

Can't wait to call Spectrum to cancel service !!!

PS:  We are going w DirecTV also because they have our RSN (Bally Sports) included in their 'choice' plan.  We are Rays and Lightning fans.

And as usual @DIRECTVhelp messed up - providing a link to DirecTV satellite info to a user who explicitly said they were interested in DirecTV Stream.  Good job!

@hbrinley - Setup is pretty straightforward,  Once you connect the streaming device to the TV using HDMI and to the internet, the device itself should walk you through the setup steps.  The biggest concern is probably the internet connection.  If you use a wired (Ethernet) connection, there should be no problems.  If you are using wireless (WiFi) then you need to make sure you have a good signal where the device will be, and (assuming you have security enabled on your WiFi) you will need to enter your WiFi credentials, which can be slightly painful with the on-screen keyboard, but should only need to be done once.  (Entering your DirecTV Stream credentials - and perhaps Google credentials - will be similarly painful, but should also be one-time actions.)
