DIRECTV STREAM Remote Troubleshooting (Streaming Device)

Having Trouble with your DIRECTV STREAM Remote? Check out the solutions below.

Resync the remote - Blue/ Purple LIghts

  1. On your remote, press Home.
  2. Select Settings > System > System Settings.
  3. Select Remote & Devices.
  4. Select Program Your Remote.
  5. Select TV or Speaker System depending on your device.
  6. Follow the prompts.

Make sure you are close enough to the DIRECTV STREAM Box and pointing towards the IR receiver on the device. The remote lights will blink blue when pairing.

Make sure the batteries are firmly in place - No Lights
Remove the battery cover, take out the batteries and place them back in. If functions are restored, you are good to go. In some instances, you may need to resync the remote.

Replace the batteries - Red Blinking Light
Over time, batteries lose their charge and a message to change the batteries normally appears and the light will blink red. Low-level battery life may cause sluggish remote commands and prevent you from using Google Assistant. Your remote may change to IR mode and in some instances, you may need to resync the remote once the batteries are replaced.

Heads Up: AT&T does not send replacement batteries.

Switch to IR

  • Some TVs may not support the Bluetooth function. That is ok, use IR is an option:
Press and hold Fast Forward (>>) and Rewind (<<) keys simultaneously.

The remote will default to IR mode when setting up.

Unpairing the remote
If you need to move your DIRECTV STREAM Box to a new TV, you have the option to unpair the remote:

  • Press and hold the Dash and Diamond keys simultaneously.

Hi, @Denisbeam. If you have a Gemini device, have you tried rebooting the device by pressing the red reset button on the right-side panel? If you're using the DIRECTV STREAM app, have you tested uninstalling and then reinstalling the app itself? That basic troubleshooting usually fixes the issue. Jerald, DIRECTV Community Specialist

Hi, @Wayne14778612. Watching TV while you can't control the volume can be inconvenient. Your remote needs to be programmed to your TV so that you can control the volume. Please visit Fix your DIRECTV remote | DIRECTV Support to get instructions on how to program your remote. Thanks for choosing DIRECTV. John, DIRECTV Community Specialist.

I have a Panasonic TV and an ATT Tv (now DirecTV Stream) box. Initially the ATT remote controlled the TV and DTV box perfectly but after a couple of years, the ATT remote lost the ability to turn the TV on and off. After resetting, reinstalling and getting the latest updates the remote will now do everything but turn the TV on, which requires the Panasonic remote. Very annoying!

We're sorry if you're having trouble checking the DM. Here's a troubleshooting step that you can try:

  • Press the 'Home' button on the remote

  • Arrow left to expand the left side navigation menu

  • Arrow down to select 'Settings' (Gear Icon), press 'OK' on the remote

  • Select 'Systems', press 'OK'

  • Select 'Remote & Devices', press OK

  • Select 'Program Your Remote', press OK

  • Select 'Power Off Devices', to disable, press OK

  • Select 'Power Off Devices', to enable, press OK

Please let me know if it helps. Rhyan, DIRECTV Community Specialist
