DirecTV Streaming and ROKU Audio Issue
I found this complaint and, since it describes the issue I’ve had for months, I edited it for this description. Kudos to the author as it describes this problem exactly.
The DirecTV Stream app has a serious audio problem on Roku devices. I've experienced it on 4 different Roku devices (2 stream sticks and 2 Ultimate units) the Roku forum is full of complaints and questions. The problem is clearly unique to the DirecTV app. Audio will suddenly drop in volume to nearly inaudible or get a lot of static in the audio stream just at random. Occasionally it will come back on its own after a time, but changing stations appears to fix it. It's terribly annoying to have to switch channels and switch back--often several times within a program hour.

And yet people have been able to offer workarounds. Go figure.

I also found out that turning on audio leveling while running the DirecTV app stops the dropouts but with leveling turned on, audio levels are the same for all programming, no dynamic audio range. That's not a good compromise either. It could be that the only solution is to purchase the device from DirecTV. They need to fix this! How do I contact DirecTV support?

I contacted support and reported specifically what the issue is, the workarounds and their drawbacks. Thank you all for your feedback and help in this matter. To restate, the issue is as follows:
The DirecTV app on Roku Ultra will drop the audio about every 10 seconds momentarily. The problem does not occur on any other app on the device. The workarounds are:
1) Set the Roku to stereo mode in the Roku settings for audio. That eliminates the audio dropouts but also eliminates surround sound. Since this is a global setting, it is no good.
2) While viewing the DirecTV Roku app, change the audio to leveling. That eliminates dynamic audio range and is not a good compromise either as the same volume level is no good for movies, etc.
The support person assured me that my information will be passed to the technical team. Who knows what they will do but at least they may be informed.

This is getting ridiculous!! Roku is one of the best streaming devices around. OF all the streaming devices, Directv should work seamlessly on this device. This problem is unique to Directv. None of my other streaming apps, are experiencing any of these issues. Directv needs to fix this as there are other products available to replace them with.

I have 2 Roku express units. The audio is out of sync on both. I also have 2 Directv streaming stand-alone boxes. It does not occur with either box--only with the Express units.
So, whatever the dude that works for Directv says about checking/changing the tv's audio settings is (Edited per community guidelines)!!! If that were the case, the issue would be present on all streaming devices and/or inputs.
This is a DIRECTV streaming problem!

@tomroth1 have you tried uninstalling/reinstalling the apps and restarting the Roku's? What is the model number of your Roku?

I got tired of waiting for DirectTV to resolve the problem and switched to a Firestick on this one TV that is experiencing the issues. Have not experienced any of these compatible issues with the FireTV.

I had sound issues. And got ripped off by DirectTV as well.
Every 8 seconds the sound annoyingly glitches/cuts out. Noticed immediately after getting the service. Worked with tech support to troubleshoot how and why this was happening. Spent several hours on several nights doing this (I know, I should have quit the service the first night).
Finally I was told that it must be my Roku device, and consider buying a new one. Except - two other Roku devices (one is brand new) and a Roku TV having the SAME glitch. Then was told it must be the internet - except the Internet is ATT Fiber, and the Internet is AWESOME (great job ATT affiliate company, almost blamed yourselves for the problem. Brilliant). Oh. An NO PROBLEMS with ANY other streaming app either.
Pointed this out to tech support on a call/chat. Then was told it must be a bigger problem between Direct and Roku, and a trouble ticket was being placed. I asked how long it would take to get a a fix - was told sorry, but could not do any estimate. I was annoyed another couple of days with the sound cutting out momentarily ever 8 seconds, and gave YouTube TV a try. Perfect sound and picture.
I call DirectTV to cancel. A multi step process- made it as hard to cancel as possible. Was even offered 50% off a DirectTV streaming hardware device. Well, I have 4 already, why would I want to buy another one? Especially since YouTube TV is already working PERFECTLY on my Roku devices! So I know it is DirectTV streaming is the problem - not the internet, not my Roku devices.
Here’s the kicker. I cancel within two weeks of starting the service, and cancelling since DirectTV has problems, and will not fix those problems. Yet. I have to pay for the entire month for crappy, glitchy and unacceptable service? I am telling EVERYONE that with this poor customer service to stay away from even giving it a try. I recommend starting with a service that has a longer trial period to find and fix tech issues before being ripped off for $75 for a service you cannot use.

Well, one reason is you get a full function remote that works way better than using a Roku remote. Since the box is RF and IR capable, you can also use a universal remote with it. After having issues with my Roku devices (Apple TV has issues on them too) I just bought 4 of the streaming boxes and have not looked back. Can get them on ebay fairly cheap.

I would have thought that Directv would have corrected this issue by now as it is not anything new and it is affecting a large customer base. I switched to the Fire stick and have not experienced this issue. I would have tried the Directv streaming box but it is too large and bulky. If DDirectv is going to supply their own streaming device, it needs to be more compact and able to hid behind the TV, similar to Roku and Fire sticks

Too large and bulky? It's about the size of a sandwich. I see no reason it can't be "hidden" behind a TV. But since I like the IR remote capability, I have it with my other gear. Don;t even notice it.
While I agree that DirecTV should address the issues, (just like Apple TV should have but won't), IMO the streaming box is a much better option anyway. No awkward scrolling around to do things. If I want channel xxx, I just punch it in. Want to see the guide, list, menu, etc just press the corresponding button. And all with the same universal remote I have already been using for well over a decade.
