Losing connection/broadcast freezing

I have 5 DIRECTV Stream boxes and every day on at least one of them I will lose connection to the broadcast. The only way I can get it back is to unplug the box and plug it back in. I recently upgraded my internet to the fastest available in hopes this would fix it but it hasn’t. What is going on and what can I do?

Hi @stacyrings, let's work on sorting things out.

Internet connectivity is the main factor for a great DIRECTV STREAM experience. When having high volume of devices connected to the network, we highly recommend using a wired connection to assure a faster communication from the gateway.

Could you please let us know if the boxes are connected via Wi-Fi or Ethernet cord?

We're here to help you out.

Juan, they are connected via Wi-Fi. I don’t have many connections. Usually just one tv at a time and 2 phones.

Thank you so much for sharing, @stacyrings. Please try connecting the DIRECTV STREAM device via Ethernet to improve the connectivity.

Also here are some troubleshooting if you're having pixelated or no picture, video that’s out of sync with audio, or other video playback issues:

  1. Restart your device - press the red button on the side or unplug it for 30 seconds, then turn it back in.
  2. Make sure that your TV isn’t in standby or screensaver mode. Press the Home button on your DIRECTV STREAM remote.
  3. Check the video input cable to make sure it’s firmly connected to your device and to the HDMI or composite connector on your TV. If so, try changing the HDMI cable to a different port.
  4. Swap out the HDMI cable with 2.0 or higher - use the provided HDMI cable. You can also remove any HDMI switches so HDMI connects DIRECTV STREAM to the TV directly.
  5. Be sure to check the input (or source) that your device is connected to. Or, try a different input.

Please visit Fix DIRECTV STREAM device issues site to explore a few extra tips to improve your service experience.

Let us know if this works.

@stacyrings that is most likely an issue with your WiFi connection. Although hard-wiring each stream box with Ethernet could potentially fix the issue, you will most likely get the same results. Therefore, some potential options to fix the issue would be to bring the router closer to the stream boxes if you can't get ethernet run to them and run a speed test on a PC where each stream box is located to verify a strong connection (you can post the upload and download speeds here).
