Persistent Audio Sync Issues (Roku / DIRECTV STREAM)

Everything I try to watch on DIRECTV STREAM for Roku has an audio / video sync issue where the video lags at least 3s behind the audio. Often the delay is much worse.

”Everything” is not an exaggeration. This issue occurred with NBC, ABC, Fox, CBS, HBO, ESPN, Paramount, MTV, BabyTV, NBCSN, TNT, and various recorded programming.

I do not experience a similar issue with the other streaming apps downloaded to my Roku. This list includes Xfinity TV, Netflix, HBO Max and Prime Video.

I have tried several system restarts and app re-downloads with no luck. Calls to AT&T customer service have been fruitless. I have read these forums and have yet to see a legitimate answer to this issue. Is there anyone on this forum who can help?

I have the DIRECTV STREAM app on my ruku tv and it was lagging bad. I went to my ruku settings >audio>audio mode and put it on stereo mode and it works. At least for now🤷‍♀️

I have the DIRECTV STREAM device connected by ethernet to my 1gig internet service which typically runs around 800mbps or higher. So internet speed is NOT my issue. However, I have recurring audio sync issues as well. I have an HDMI 2.1 connected to a QLED tv (overkill since my TV only supports HDMI 2.0 and not sure about the DIRECTV STREAM device.) Then I use the optical output from TV to my soundbar.

I recently replaced my Samsung tv with a QLED TCL tv which is amazing. Interesting that the audio synch mostly disappeared with the tv change, but it shows up again periodically.

When it went out of sync with a live tv stream last night, I changed channels (losing my spooled time, which is annoying) and changed back to the same channel. Audio sync fixed for a while.

This seems to me to be the DIRECTV STREAM device. Prior to installing the device, I used the same exact setup, but with a Fios DVR.

The only thing I haven't ruled out is to watch with a separate app for long enough to see if the sync happens either with my Apple TV or Roku apps. The reason is that the apps are not usable for live tv since they don't have FF/FR capability like the DIRECTV STREAM device. Only pausing and then resuming is not usable for me when I need to back up to replay something.

Honestly, I'm not tech savvy enough to even decipher a lot of that. All I know is that all the apps I use, and have used, for live TV I've had no problems with; YouTube TV is especially awesome, but no Royals baseball (yeah, I know, why would I want that anyway right now?!). So that's a deal breaker. During the games, there is no sync problem, but the sound cuts out altogether in short bursts, so you'll only get a few words the announcers say. And then it's ok for 5 minutes, and then happens again repeatedly and randomly. I only use a Roku, there isn't any Ethernet connection available anywhere near my TV either. And I'm not installing one just because DIRECTV  can't get their s**t together. I don't need an "DIRECTV STREAM", I assume whatever that is I will have to pay for it and I don't intend to stay long, as it looks like my team is out of it now. Just seems ridiculous to me that DIRECTV obviously doesn't have any kind of urgency to fix the issue (or care). Guess all those government subsidies they rake in makes them awfully complacent about their actual purpose in this world.

Possibly. Weird that Roku is basically the same thing though so I don't know why it would make a difference.

If the Royals can try not to (Edited per community guidelines) so bad in the next couple of weeks it might be worth a try at least. Thanks.

I have an Apple TV and Roku OS TV as well. The  app works ok with these platforms, but the DIRECTV STREAM device has extra functionality that makes it my preferred platform. It has direct dial channel numbers and guide sorting. Also has FF/FR for live streaming TV that the other apps do not. So, my preference is to stick with the DIRECTV STREAM box.  Thanks for the advice anyway.

I have found this problem-- which is SO annoying!!-- limited to my vizio tv also. And nothing, not one, of the fixes suggested here works. I'm going to have to deal with it, or limit my watching on that tv to streaming only, and not enjoy any of the cable shows I'd like to watch in real time! Very disappointing.

I researched and tried all the competitors. DIRECTV STREAM has the beat channel lineup for me and the $5 box is worth it for me.  Full features comparable to my Fios DVR. Just the annoying audio sync issue and Hulu app compatibility (which Hulu tells me is their problem )

I have the same issues.  Audio lags a few seconds when I start and progressively gets worse.  I subscribe to DIRECTV STREAM to access regional sports.  So watching the Royals is bearable because I don’t usually see the announcers faces.  I do believe the audio is synced up on Bally but nothing else.  I have called DIRECTV STREAM and could not come up with any solution.  The representative determined it was an internal error and would get back.  I have not heard since.  I use a Roku and Sharp TV.  It would be nice to see watch other programs on DIRECTV STREAM but it’s not bearable.   If Bally becomes available on other apps I will definitely switch.

I'm with you. I'll be dumping DIRECTV STREAM. They clearly do not care about adequately supporting their own service. Shouldn't be this difficult for a company with the kind of clout they have. Obviously it's just bait to force consumers to acquiesce to signing up for a cable contract again. They're crooks.

I fixed my Roku audio lag issues... It was simple.   go to Roku  settings...  Display type... and swap the setting from 1080 to 720p.   it instantly fixed my audio lag...   I was having major audio out of sync issues with NBC ABC CBS and the Weather channel..  The Fox channels were fine.. But more than half were lagging..  Once I changed the Roku display type settings the audio Issues went away...

Hello everyone.  The solution is changing the audio settings from about stereo to stereo in the Roku settings and also audio output to surround plus and it fixed the issue.  No more lag!!!!

I work for AT&T and this sh*t is making me NUTS. Whenever I'm using my Direct TV stream box and open Netflix it will be okay at first but 20min later or less the mouths aren't I'm sync with the words and it's driving me up a wall. This is bullsh*t. And thanks Direct TV for not helping when I called or answering the questions on this forum. When I turn off your box and stream just via Amazon Fire Stick there is ZERO issues so it is 100% the bunk a** box. Ever sense AT&T sold AT&T TV to Direct TV there has been NOTHING but issues for myself and my customers.
