Playback of Chicago Fire recording on Direct TV stream includes voice over SAP (secondary audio program)
Playback of Chicago Fire recording on Direct TV stream. Voice in background describing everything in the scene making the entire thing unwatchable. Looked online last week and tonight for solution- seems there was the same problem back in 2015 with Chicago PD taped programs.
The solutions back then were to press info button then arrow down to audio to see if SAP (Secondary Audio Program) is visible- if so, turn it off. Tried this- when I press info button- there is no AUDIO choice on the screen it takes you to. Post from 2015 also says to go to info and click on cc then go down to talking guide and select off. In 2022, there is only a closed caption button to the far right and clicking on it brings up choices for whether you want closed captioning on or how often etc. Nothing about SAP voice over.
This seems to be an issue with the "Chicago" programs as the post here from 2015 was about Chicago PD and now it's Chicago Fire. What is the solution. I've searched everywhere in every menu, including on my television's menu- nothing. . Voice in background describing everything in the scene making the entire thing unwatchable. All of my other recordings play back just fine without this voice over- it's just Chicago Fire. Is there something including in that series' programming that forces the SAP playback, making it awful, forcing one to go to "on demand" version of that show and thus cannot fast forward through commercials???

What are you using to stream your Directv streaming service? What you are hearing is called Descriptive Audio. It is for people who are visually impaired. If you are using the Directv Streaming box this is how you can make sure that feature is turned off if you go into "Settings" and then select "Preferences" go down to "Audio Program" and make sure that it is set to "Auto (Default)" or "English". If you are using another device then you would need to go to your device settings to see if it was turned on, on your streaming device. Hope this helps.

I'm using a Roku on the television. I don't have a Directtv streaming box.
All of my other recordings are fine - it's only the Chicago Fire one that does that so it has to be something with streaming of that show or the network.
I record A LOT of shows. Some of those shows may not have that Descriptive Audio available but, either way, it's only that show that it's happening with.
I checked all of the settings on the Roku also and there is nothing there about it and it's set to English and Auto for audio.
Thanks for trying to help!

There is actually a setting on the Roku for this. I only know this because my 3-year-old daughter kept somehow turning this function on and driving us all nuts with it and it took me forever to figure out how to turn it off. To check your settings on your Roku you go to "settings" then to "Accessibility" then go to "Screen Reader" and make sure that is set to off. I would also take and if this is set to off then I would delete the recording that was recorded and has the audio issue and I would find the episode on demand and see if that has the same audio issues as your recorded show. Maybe it was just an issue with your recording version.

Thank you, Tiger! I checked the screen reader setting on Roku. It was set to off.
The "on demand" episodes are fine- no narration. That is how I watched the show last week because it was awful trying to watched my taped version. I don't want to have to do that every week though- especially since taping shows is part of my package so it should be working.
All other shows I've taped (and there are a lot of them) play back just fine.
Evidently, this was an issue back in 2015 also with another one of (Edited per community guidelines) Wolf's other productions: Chicago PD. This time it's Chicago Fire. I guess if you can't watch the taped version, they can force you into the on demand where you can't ff through the commercials. Not me- if they don't fix this, I'll just stop watching that show altogether. It's not worth it.

Sorry, that I was not able to help you fix your issue maybe it will clear up on its own. I have never had this issue even though I do have multiple Roku I switched over to the Directv Streaming Boxes because it was more user friendly and it made it easier to access my recorded shows and I was able to change the channel with number buttons more like traditional cable/Sat. services.
