Rearrange and remove channels
I just left YouTubeTV this morning due to the sports programming issues and came to DirecTV. How can I rearrange the channels in my guide to the order I want them? How do I remove channels from my Guide?

You can't rearrange channels or remove any channels. You can display them alphabetically or numerically. The channels in the package you subscribe to will always appear in your guide. What you can do is go to specific channels and tag them as favorites and create a list of your favorite channels to use as a guide instead of the entire list of your package. Then right click while you are in Guide and under channels select "Favorites" instead of "All".

Thank you for the response! Amazing they do not have a user interface that is more friendly.

What streaming device are you using? Each device has different sorting options. The DirecTV Stream box is the best. You can also set up a Favorite listing for just the channels you want to view.

OP posted this question on the directv stream reddit forum also. The answer is going to be the same on both places. Not sure why a favorites list isn't good enough sorted alphabetically or by number.

I never asked this question elsewhere because I do not have a Reddit account :-)
I like to delete the channels from the guide that I never want to be viewed… And I like the channel I go to the most to be at the top

LOL oh come on. I've never seen anyone ask if there is a sorting order or a way to rearrange channel in the guide (other than favorites/numbers/alphabet) There is the same question in 2 different forums just 1 hour apart. Anyway---it's not gonna happen on dtv stream. The other post was written by a person with youtubetv with sports issues as well. lol

@Ludwick577 , the reason you suddenly see these similar questions is all ESPN channels were just pulled from YTT at midnight Friday night which left subs scrambling to catch a lot of sports on Saturday. Because of sports programming is why they jumped to DTV to try it out. Also, on YTT you can delete channels & organize them in any fashion you wish…and it is impossible for anyone to argue that this capability would not be more user friendly.
Ultimately programming matters the most…but it is unfortunate the UX is not better since I will be paying $105 per month for DTV rather than $65 for YTT. I have YTT on “pause” while they figure it out with ESPN.
btw….I am a DTV fan as I was an early adopter to satellite in the 90’s and had it for 20+ years.

Not only did YouTube TV lose ESPN, they also lost all ABC-owned channels.

And many folks have left traditional TV providers like DirecTV, Dish, Comcast, etc., because of network contract disputes and dropping channels. Clearly, streaming providers are now facing the same contract extortions. Folks complain when providers drop networks, and they complain when prices constantly increase. Who's the real villain here?!?

Yep...I do not mind paying more to get the content I want. Sports fans just get messed over because they divide up the channels and force you to add multiple tiers. Even with Directv you get most of the sports channels with Choice, but if you want FS2 and CBS Sports Network, you have to move up Ultimate.
I know YTT just got their agreement back in place and all of the ESPN, ACCN, SECN, etc. channels are back now....but they still do not have Bally's SS or Bally's SSE...so I will continue with DTV for a bit and see how it goes!

@Ludwick577 - the reason you might not have seen requests to allow editing and rearranging of the channel list is that you apparently are fairly new. We (longer term subscribers) have been asking for that feature for many years, with no action on AT&T's part, and now no action on DirecTV's. For the most part, people have stopped asking for features like that since it doesn't seem to accomplish anything. But it would still be very desirable - especially if they added profiles - a feature that was (vaguely) promised almost 4 years ago but which obviously never happened.
@litzdog911 - you can set up favorites on any device - they are part of the account, not part of the device. The DirecTV device has some advantages, but also some disadvantages - you can't say it is unconditionally "the best".
The apps for almost all the devices now share the same 2 sorting options - numerical (using DirecTV channel numbering) and alphabetical. It so happens that neither of those are the order I'd prefer.
And "favorites" aren't a replacement for being able to edit the channel list. They only apply to the EPG - they don't impact channel up/down "surfing", which still shows all channels even if in favorite mode.
And (still lacking profiles) favorites are shared, so if there are multiple users of the same account, they all share the same favorites, which doesn't really make them favorite...
The bottom line is that I agree with @pbgulfgirl - the UI feature set is lacking and has been from the start, with very few enhancements over the years. AT&T apparently didn't want to invest development dollars in the service - to be seen if DirecTV chooses to. None of this should be a surprise to the Product Marketing team, but since they don't provide any mechanism for users to directly offer input, it isn't clear to what extent the powers that be are really aware - it is clear that Support doesn't provide a path.
(@litzdog911 - as an ACE, you may remember that a couple of years ago I requested in the ACE place a session where we could discuss such issues with the Marketing and Development team. "You know who" indicated he was attempting to arrange one, but nothing ever happened, which I take to mean that under AT&T they didn't really care enough to do it. As I said, it is TBD if DirecTV will be different, but there's still no mechanism to directly provide input...)

Well said @Jrandomuser . Your points are all spot on. I just discovered yesterday, three days in, that we could not set up a different profile my wife or kids. YTT allows up to four profiles with their own login and password. Unlimited cloud storage on YTT compared to 20 hours with DTV is another issue we have bumped up against unless we increase plan to $110 per month.
There are just two stations that we watch frequently, and that DTV has and YTT does not….Ballys SportsSouth and Ballys Sports Southeast. We just have to decide if it is worth the extra $35 per month for DTV to get those two stations as we get used to the UX issues.
I want Directv to “win out” as I loved their satellite service back in the pre-steam days.

@Jrandomuser. The point of my comment mentioning I had never seen a recent post asking for different guide sorting methods is b/c the OP also posted on reddit the same question and I was trying to tell OP she isn't going to get an answer different from the reddit post. She weirdly denied posting on reddit even though the 2 different posts were an hour apart about a topic that hadn't been discussed in a while.
