Samsung TV / DirecTV Stream issues?

Just wondering if anyone else is having issues with the DTVS app on a new Samsung TV?  After much ado and many months, it seems the problem with DVR playback not working has been fixed (reported extensively on Samsung forums.)  I'm still having regular episodes of the normal streamed content stopping/starting, screen going black for several seconds, delays, etc.

The experience using the Samsung Tizen software version of the DTV Stream app and even when it was AT&T TV has never been good.. The channels load blurry for the first 20 seconds or so. You scroll the guide and the audio will go choppy on the channel you're watching or the screen will even go black for a bit. Telling to uninstall and reinstall is not the solution. It's on the developer and or server end for the issues. I would suggest using either the Roku app or the DTV Stream box. Maybe one day they'll get it up to what is expected. With all of the advertising they've done with Serena, you'd think more attention would be on all of the platforms DTV Stream is on.

We're all having the same problems....

If Apple TV+ can write an app for 4 year old Samsung Smart TV's and every other app works from other Streams, why can't we have a clean DirecTV App ?

I've worked with all types of systems for almost 25 years and I know the code writers can give us a clean app, However, I'm now convinced there is something in the DirecTV backbone that isn't playing fair with the Samsung users.

On a special note: I'm not seeing that notice; "Are you Still There?"... Probably because part of that algorithm is causing some of the existing problems by dropping user's connections on a crowded network.

But, turning that theory around, if DIRECTV can provide an app that works on 7 different lines of equipment (including multiple models on several of these lines), but one brand consistently has problems, why can't Samsung help AT&T get it to work?

As I've said previously, I don't pretend to know whether DIRECTV provides Samsung code which they integrate into their device, or DIRECTV codes with assistance and drivers, etc. from Samsung.  I don't know if the issue is limited hardware on the TV, or some driver software compatibility.

What I do know is that DIRECTV should be forced to drop Samsung off their list of compatible devices until whoever is responsible can make it work, and whoever needs to pay whomever under their joint marketing agreement might just get it fixed.

Brand new Samsung, same issue. All of the other apps work perfect. And it is not my network. I have over 25 years experience as a network engineer. The solution is not to get another device. Directv Stream needs to fix their code. I’m sure YouTube TV and Sling can handle the challenge. Very frustrated.

The app is their business model. It is how they make money. If they do not want my money anymore than that is fine. I did not buy a $500 TV and I am not looking to hook up a $25 Roku. Either they step up or I am gone.

Same issue on a Sony tv and only with this app. Everything else streams just fine. Definitely the app

Same issue on a Sony tv. Good internet connection, works fine with other apps, fast internet speed. Does it with all live and demand content. Streams fine on phone but not on tv. Anyone have a fix for this?

I picked up a discounted Amazon Fire Stick on cyber Monday and have since moved to that for accessing the app… Works fine.

It’s annoying for sure, but perhaps more annoying is the fact that Directv Stream is the only service with all of the channels I want (Turner networks + local sports for

the L.A. market). I literally have no other option for Laker games unless I want to go back to a traditional cable box.

I can guarantee Dtv Stream is not making most of their money from customers with the Samsung Tv app. Apps are just a way to access the service. Their business model is centered around the stream box. Dtv is trying to transition their satellite customers to dtv stream. The best way to do that is to offer a set top box so the experience is similar. Btw, the stream box is only 6 x 6 inches. Not sure why people who don't have it try to compare it to having a cable tv box.

Getting a box from your provider is NOT the direction everyone is going. It is developing apps for platforms, ie Roku, Samsung, etc. everyone that loves their box can keep using them. Just stack them on top of your VCR. I prefer having all my apps on one platform. And that platform is “supported”. So, Directv Stream…. Fix your supported app

Thought I would share this: I commented about 12 days ago about possibly getting an external device. Was having the same issues as everyone else. Then, the app started doing something odd. When streaming premium channels HBO/Stars, it would drop out (blank screen, spinning logo, then reload), the sound would then be in Spanish, not English. Changing channels would fix it most of the time, other times I would have to exit out of the app and reload. Final straw for me, Roku Ultimate came in yesterday, everything is fine now. I hate to have to hook up an external device to my Sammy when it has everything I want/need built-in, but as others have mentioned, I cannot get the programming I want elsewhere and it's obvious DTV is not going to fix their issues let alone acknowledge them. $70 to not be angry at DTV every 10 to 15 minutes was worth it!

U could have bought the best external device, Dtv stream box. It has google play store on it and you can also have all your apps in one place. Plus remote features: number channel changing, shortcut to guide, recordings, record, previous channel, info, and voice search :)

Obviously everyone is missing the point. I have been running a Roku for over 10 years, my son has a fire stick…. I get it. I have an unused Roku sitting in front of me right now. I could plug it in and be done just like I do on my 65 inch LG which is not supported…… not the point. If you look at the supported devices it says Apple TV, Roku, webos, apple, SAMSUNG, etc… if any of you that are running on Roku had a software issue what would be your solution? Buy Apple TV? Or better yet, wait until there is some firmware issue on the Directv Stream appliance…. What is your solution then? Buy a laptop and use chromecast? The answer is no…. You all would want Directv Stream to do the same thing the Samsung owners are wanting them to do…. Fix the supported app. That is the solution.

I agree with you bekaaj. I posted a question here in the forum about sudden automatic language switching on my 2020 Samsung QLED 4K tv in the middle of a movie, and now have 5 pages of discussion under my question. I spoke to my retail store where I bought the samsung last year. They in turn called the head of Samsung training for sales & service reps.

That head of Training told the store manager that, since the change from AT&T TV Now to DirecTV Stream, Samsung has not yet gotten an agreement to license the app from whoever owns DirecTV Stream.

So someone is dragging their feet on the technical solution and it sounded like it isn't Samsung, but, since TV makers have to pay fees for each third party streaming app that they make available via their Smart TV platforms, who knows? It could be a money thing.
