Screen freezing during live hockey games but works fine for other content

I am so frustrated.  We signed up for DirectTV streaming in order to get the sports channel that plays our local hockey team's games.  Every single time I go to watch a game, the screen freezes up multiple times during critical game play and then when it comes back on I've missed important parts of the game (ie:  like somebody scoring a goal!!!!!).  I can sit here and watch hours and hours of other content and never have a problem.  Our internet connection is rock solid and I don't have this problem with other services like Netflix and YouTube, etc...  This even happens while watching recorded games.

I am about ready to tell ATT to stick this service where the sun doesn't shine.  I have better things to do with my $85 a month I am throwing away for this crappy service.  We had YouTube TV for years and never once had a problem like this.

What device are you using? Are you using WiFi or Ethernet connection?

I am using an HP Pavilion laptop and I am on WiFi.  I'm not having streaming issues on any other service.

This is likely related to the volume of data required for the channel due to the fact this is being transmitted live.  Prerecorded content can be compressed using fancy algorithms that take too long for real time use.  National sports networks likely have better compression hardware than your local TV production, and your local TV producer may be trying to use too high resolution to make a pretty picture, without realizing the impact it has on the streaming.

I point these things out to say that if another provider offered this same local content, you may (or may not) have the same issues with it.

I have had this issue before with my DirecTV Stream box. I did a reset of the box and it cleared it up.

Make sure if you are using wifi you have a strong enough signal, at your computer. If you have a long distance, walls, floors, etc, between your router and computer it will cause you to have signal loss. As someone else stated live events require more bandwidth than recorded broadcasts.

Going to You Tube won't solve your issue they don't carry local  sports networks.
