Streaming in 720p from the native box but should be 1080p or higher
I was told by ATT - now DIRECTV streaming that content should be 1080p if broadcast in 1080p however in settings the information screen tells me that everything is streaming in 720p. furthermore - the Directv Stream picture actually looks better using the app through my apple tv. That makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. Any input would be appreciated.

Directv stream box forces HDR. That's the issue. If you have a tv that lets you turn off HDR, turn it off. That's what I did. There is a new box coming out in a few months that's supposed to fix the forced HDR issue.
In terms of the 720p I am seeing some channels in 720 and some in 1080. Have you checked more than 1 channel and looked in the settings system info?
