Unable to watch recorded Regional Sports Team until the game is over
Before Fan Duel sports went belly up and numerous MLB teams dumped them and opted for MLB to handle the broadcast I was always able to play a recording of my local team even if it the game had not concluded. However, with the assumption of MLB anytime I try to jump in and watch a home game from the beginning it just goes to Live action.
I assume this is a local blackout issue as the Directv rep advised me, but why would someone 20 miles north of me be able to watch it from the beginning. Local blackout issues are typically a broad swath of the State. My friend lives 22 miles north of the ballpark and I live 21 miles west of the ballpark. He is able to stream recordings from the beginning and I am not.

While live games may be accessible through live channels, recording and accessing that content can be subject to restrictions based on certain local market areas, @Hube1. This could explain why your friend can record the game without any issues. Additionally, if you are not affected by a sports blackout, our Cloud DVR system may direct you to the live game instead of allowing you to watch a partial recording. You can fully access the recording once it is complete and the game has ended. John, DIRECTV Community Team

Yes, that is exactly what is happening, I click on watch recording and it directs to live game action. My question is that since we are both located in the same local market area, why would he be able to see the recording prior to the end of the game and I can’t? 20 miles difference does not change the local market area.

These restrictions are enforced at the ZIP code level and can vary even over short distances, depending on the exact location. Also, even within the same market, differences in device models, app versions, or settings can cause this. John, DIRECTV Community Team

John, do you hear what you are saying? How does that make any sense at all? In fact, if there is way to get this fixed with a change in device models, app versions, or a setting, please let me know so I can change mine.

And why am I able to record and watch the game tonight (3/30) without waiting for it to be over? What changed?

The restriction rules vary for each game, as the rights to broadcast games are purchased by the networks individually, which could result in this change. We'd like to have a broader overview of the issue, and a technical specialist is ready to assist you. Sending you a DM now. John, DIRECTV Community Team

Directv is having a free preview of the MLB tv channels. When that's over I bet this recording confusion ends.
