Using the fast forward feature to skip commercials

We use a fire stick to watch DirecTV streaming. It is very difficult to use the fast forward feature. The feature jumps forward rather than seamless movement. Are there any suggestions to help with this issue? Does the DirecTV streaming device handle this feature better?
