Watching with browser right side scrollbar stays visible

Since the last update Wednesday (11/10/22) night, when watching live TV with a browser, the right scrollbar on the browser does not disappear when watching in full screen mode.   This is a new behavior and didn't occur before the update.   Have tried multiple computers and browsers and getting the same result.   Fixing this should be simple on the Directv end.  Lets go guys and gals!

I can confirm that the scroll bar is there on videos from the Watch Now tab, and not from the My Library or On Demand tabs, even if (for the latter) you choose the On Now tab from a network (so get the same content you would get from Watch Now

Also,  the scroll bar remains as you "surf" from channel to channel (using the side arrows.  However, as noted, if you select the restart icon, the scroll bar goes away.  This is the case even if you choose no (don't restart), so the video just continues.  Also, if you do this, the scroll bar remains gone as you surf to other channels.

This is clearly a bug - during some update, the scroll bar (which should be there for the Watch Now page) isn't removed when they transition into "display video" mode.  I don't personally think this is that big a deal (if I'm watching something I care that much about, I'm not watching it on a computer screen), but that's me - other people are obviously more bothered by it.  This doesn't seem like it should very hard for them to fix - I assume just setting a GUI flag to not display the scrollbar when they go to display mode.

The hard part is making sure the appropriate people are made aware of it.  I don't have a lot of faith that reporting a problem to Support will get a report (especially a correct report with an adequate problem description) upstream to the developers.  I've never been in an organization where customers couldn't directly file a detailed problem report, but I've never worked on consumer level products, so perhaps this isn't unusual.  But while I may have some clue as to why they don't provide it - with a customer base (potentially) in the millions, the vast majority of whom aren't deeply technical, they don't want to be inundated with marginal bug reports - not providing some mechanism doesn't seem to work either.

Thanks for very thorough and informative post @Jrandomuser

Your work around does seem to work but the video starts to get very unstable and hiccups and sometimes it's very hard to get the pointer to stay hidden.

I agree with both your pros and cons of being able to report bugs as a consumer as there would be a lot of minor bugs or problems that are on the user's end and could be remedied via the forum here or simple Internet searches.

It'd be nice if they would monitor this forum and at least look into problems like this.

Thanks for confirming @TCsTV  and my findings and that something was definitely changed and there is definitely a bug in WEB interface. The only thing I don't understand is why is it just happening for some people and not others?

Hopefully this will help @TCsTV when he calls tomorrow and maybe he can be put in touch with the appropriate people. I understand that it's a shot in the dark and I'm definitely not holding my breath because I was here when they had the problem with the streams from laptops to TV's would go black for some time then come back or would have to channel up and back down to get the stream back. It took months for them to admit to that problem and get it fixed but it did get fixed.

Thanks again for your input and confirmation. I hope you have a Blessed Day.

hi, click the rec icon, then the scroll bar disappears. You can cancel/end the recording, and the scroll bar remains hidden

Thanks @Jrandomuser for your observations.

Maybe just saying the same thing again, but I fiddled with your suggestions and it appears the video screen inherits the scroll bar from the calling screen.  So for me, the Watch Now, On Demand and Guide windows all go beyond a full page and have scroll bars.  If I have a show playing in the mini window on the lower right while on one of those screens and jump to full screen video, I get the scrollbar.  I only have a few recorded shows, so the My Library page for me doesn't go beyond one page and doesn't have a scrollbar.  If I move over to My Library with the mini video window playing and go to full screen from there, I don't get the scrollbar on the full screen video.  Haven't tried, but I would guess if I reduce my favorites list on the Guide page so the list is short enough that the Guide page doesn't have a scrollbar, the same result would occur when jumping to full screen.

Kind of hard to explain, but for me it's fix enough until DTv fixes the problem.  A few extra clicks, but worth it for now.

Doing this via the forum has probably taken more time than getting with support in the first place.  But, confirmation that it isn't a problem on my end with others having the same issue and finding a work around of sorts has been worth it.  Kudos to DTv for having the forums.

I'm going to try and find a way to send a link to this thread to someone at DTv who might care and even pass it on to the appropriate tech people.  Going directly to the support people will probably be a long shot at best.

Just wanna say I'm having the same issue for the past few days. I watch pretty exclusively through 'my library' so I have a long list of stuff on that page. But reading through these comments has helped me figure out a workaround.

From My Library, you click on the show and you get a little pop up with your recorded episodes. Instead of clicking the play icon, click to the right of the video thumbnail. A new screen pops up without the far right scroll bar so the video will play without the issue.

I am also experiencing the same behavior, it is quite annoying seeing a scroll bar during full screen viewing.

This scroll bar was so annoying but I'm a software developer so here's the solution.  In Chrome or Edge, right click on the video with it maximized when browsing "https://stream.directv.com/watchnow" and click "Inspect" which brings up the browser developer tool on the right side.  For Chrome and in the "Elements" tab and at the very top where it has <html>, double click in there and insert the following style="overflow-y: hidden" then press enter and the annoying vertical scrollbar should disappear.  Final <html> tag should look like this now <html style="overflow-y: hidden">.  Edge is slightly different but you can edit the <html> tag the same way.  Once done, click the top right X on the developer tool to close it out.  Enjoy!

I see there's still no fix on their end. All these band-aids still leave a hiccupping stream for me when stream from a laptop to my TV.

You'd figure they would be smart enough to look at the forum every once in awhile to see what kind of problems they are having but then again the number of people using the computer or laptop to stream are very miniscule group of people and not enough for them to be concerned with fixing a simple problem on their end.

I'll just stick with the Roku stick and see if they prove me wrong and have this fixed before 2 months.

WiNz agreed, lots of band-aids but nothing from DTv.

There's a DIRECTVhelp user on this board who seems to have responded selectively to a couple of other posts regarding the bugs in the interface.  DIRECTVhelp seems to be an account shared by various DTv employees, Monica and Laura that I've seen so far.  Every time they respond, they say they'll pass the post on to the appropriate tech people.  They don't seem to have much interest in this thread.  Perhaps it's to long or specific and not general enough for their attention.

DIRECTVhelp, help please!!

The main reason is that it's not a problem for the majority of the users. Most are using DTV's receivers or various streaming devices. Laptop and computer users would be at the bottom of the list.

Thus the priority of even trying to fix or even acknowledge the problem is pretty much not going to happen. Again, that's why I said it will take them a couple of months minimum to fix the problem (maybe).

My laptop that's hooked up to my TV will not even log me in on the first try.  I get a 404 error with a Family Guy character with a teddy bear. I click the link again and it logs me in. All the above band-aids and even trying to watch it with the scroll bar is very laggy and hiccups all the time. I know it's not just the laptop because I tried it on this computer that is hardwired and it does the same thing except I don't get the redirect 404 error. So, there's more problems than just the scroll bar. Yes, this is in incognito browsers so cookies, cache and etc. are not the issue.

I'll stop by from time to time to see if anyone with some kind of ties to DTV directly even cares to try to get this information to the technical developers so they can fix the issues. Until then I guess I'll just have to resort to using the Roku stick ( which by the way I loathe as I was so used to remoting into my laptop hooked up to my TV that I used as a multi media device).

ehjay7 is my freaking HERO!!  That solution worked 100%.  I was also having the side scroll bar visible issue, but this fix in Chrome worked!  You deserve an award!

Whelp....... Day 29 and nothing has changed. My 2 month prediction's time is looking kind of dim at the moment. I'm glad the band-aids are working for some but none of them are acceptable to me. Getting tired of using the clunky ole Roku stick but it's better than having a scroll bar or lagging hiccupping video with all the other band-aids.

I guess I'll be going back to a competitors streaming service soon but I'll be back to check and see if they ever got it fixed in the 2 month time frame I quoted. " Smirk"
