It all depends on preference. I prefer a Fire Stick since I love the UI (user interface) and find it easier to interact with. However, many may like the Roku experience and the remote control that it comes with. Overall, I couldn’t tell you the truth of ‘which is better’ as it would be more of an opinionated answer than actual fact.
Based on my personal experience, a Roku Ultra connected via ethernet provides the best performance. I found that Fire TV devices produced a jittery picture during sporting events and other programming with fast motion.
They are both good but if you are going to purchase one or the other to watch Directv on you may want to look into a refurbished Directv box as it is more like a cable/sat. box and you still have the ability to download all the same apps that you would on the Roku and Firestick. But with the Directv box, you have voice control and a remote that has number buttons on it which the Roku and Firestick don't have.

I use both, and sometimes one is better than the other, depending on what task you are performing, or app you are using.
