AT&T/Sunbeam-WSVN dispute

Just found out this morning that the dispute over Sunbeam/WSVN-Channel 7 is South Florida wanting to jack up their fees has come to full effect. There's no programming on WSVN today only a screen telling us to check out AT&T's side of the story. But I agree with AT&T on this

I'm tired of these networks/channels jacking up their rates and expecting the consumer and/or the carriers to pay for it. This is a broadcast station that we're talking about.

The only thing is I'm going to miss the NFL playoffs today and most of all, THE SIMPSONS (D'OH). Why can't AT&T carry Channel 29/West Palm Beach instead?

@dhascall   You of all people should not have made that mistake, remember the 5 yr impasse for Hallmark channel? Smiley Surprised

This dispute is getting more people to cut the cable, get HD antennas, and subscribe to Netflix and Hulu. Both fox and uverse lose. Stupid is as stupid does. Not a smart marketing strategy.

Maybe some, but if into many sports, you won't be a cord cutter as it's nowhere but on a TV service, no streaming w/o one. 😉

I dont think I have watched more that 30 minutes of the Hallmark Channel in my entire lifetime, thru AT&T or previous providers, but an important local Subsidiary of the National FOX Network, missing for even 24 hrs is a disgrace.

Gracias !!

What I find interesting in this whole situation is that from day one of the blackout, AT&T has not really communicated with its customers. The fighting for you page SHOULD be where to go for updates, but there are none. In the meantime, the Miami Herald and Sun Sentinel have kept the Miami area up to date on what's going on. The Herald and the Sun Sentinel in addition to WSVN were the first to give advanced notice about the signal going dark.

In regards to going to fox.com to watch shows, that's not really the point. For instance, those with access to Fox were able to watch Grease live as it aired; they didn't have to later go to fox.com and watch a "recorded version" of Grease live. During the NFC playoffs, those with Fox got to watch the game live. Those with uverse were forced to watch the game on Fox Desportes since the online access via FoxSportsGo was blocked, despite the fighting for you page specifically stating that customers could go there and watch the game, because AT&T does not believe that anyone will be blocked from watching the game.

It's obvious this is not going to end anytime soon. Sunbeam was recently quoted as saying no progress has been made. It's too bad the Superbowl is not on Fox, because then there would be more of an effort to get the programming back on the air. Surely Sunbeam would not block access to watching the Superbowl.

It's unfortunate that the FCC won't do anything to step in and get this issue resolved. I say this based on the responses I got from them. As has been suggested, I will be writing a letter and request that it goes in the FCC file.

@mibrnsurg - no mistake on my part.  I said that it was the longest local impasse.  Last I checked, Hallmark was not a local station.

@c_brookhart - yup, sometimes AT&T, the communication company, is not that good, at, well, communicating.

@c_brookhart  ATT never negotiates in the public arena; although Sunbeams's owner does not take that advice (most of stations/Networks too).

ATT will give the we are working on it line until it's settled, no updates available. 😉

Edit:  Would bet dollars to doughnuts that Sumbeam would BLOCK the Superbowl if on Fox, again even if ATT offered to pay for it, like the playoffs.  Just a mean hearted man caring only about the dollar, not customers.  I'd start calling businesses advertising on the channel that you are not seeing the ads and should not be paying as much for advertising.

And that is true but I would expect a bit more.  No, subscribers do not need to know the nuts and bolts and only a person interested in that kind of thing wouldn't be bored to tears BUT AT&T does need to communicate above the "We are fighting for you" mantra.  I'm not sure what is showing on 7/1007 but that would be a great place to run a short video with what happened, what AT&T is doing and where you can go to learn more.  You know, basic communications (from a communication company).

Also, should we get a discount or refund for the programming we are not receiving. We have a contract that stipulates that we pay ($$$$) for a number of services, but if we are no able to get one of the services why should be penalized and have to pay for it. This is just wrong and unfair. Not asking for hundred of dollars, just a prorated amount based on the lost of the station and programming.

Do the math.  Look at your bill and see what you pay for your TV service (UFamily/U300/U450, etc.).  Divide that by 30 (avg. # days in a month) and then divide that by the number of channels in your package (200?/300?/400?).  This will tell you how much you pay PER DAY PER CHANNEL...probably around .02¢ a day.

Now multiply that number by the number of days that the station has been off the air.  I think you'll find that it will be minimal at best...less than 50¢.

It would be totally fair to call ATT CS and ask for that amount to be credited to your account.

Don't mess with old people.  The older we get, the less "Life in Prison" is a deterrent.

But @skeeterintexas, skeeter, skeeter, skeeter!  That is the only channel they watch.  They don't watch no Spanish channels!  No TV Land!  No Al Jazeera Freakin' Am-uri-ca!!!Don't you understand?!  They missed the finale of Masterchef Junior, for crying out loud (that cute as a button Addison won)!  They deserve at least, well, two dollars!

Not my problem.

You want credit?  You get credit....for the station that you're missing.  2¢ a day...THAT'S IT!

You have to look at the larger picture. Let's say for sake of argumrnt you have 6 million customers to which all recieve a .50 credit. Just do the math 3 million credit a month, we will get the station back quickly.
