Loss of channels

AT&T has failed to properly prepare for the  anticipated end of contract negotiation with Nexstar - resulting in the loss of ABC station, a MAJOR network. This continues to happen, as in the past, when other channels were removed from the lineup - as your customers continue to pay increased costs in service. We set up another TV(purchased an antennae) that would give us this basic channel for the interim - assuming we will get the channel back at some time in the future!  I think it's time to contact other providers who can provide continuing service that we PAY for and don't get with AT&T.

Will we get a discount or credit because channel 13 & 31 have not been available?

Sounds like you're in an east side suburb of Columbus where we lived for many years. I can't address your discount question, but I can advise you that picking up a simple digital antenna for your TV should allow you to continue watching NBC 4 with no problem.

Don't mess with old people.  The older we get, the less "Life in Prison" is a deterrent.

They do control the content, so saying otherwise is inaccurate. They
control the content by negotiating and agreeing to terms and when they
cannot come to a mutually agreeable term then they choose to not carry that
content any further. To continuously suggest that the Nexstar simply pulled
the channels and ATT had no option goes against everything that is being
written outside of this forum by the ATT puppets.

Also, ATT and you keep saying ATT cares about their customer and keeping
prices low, and that is why they are not agreeing to the new terms that the
other service providers have accepted. If that is true, and it has been
over a month, I am assuming ATT is no longer paying Nexstar but rather than
lowering the consumers bill, ATT is pocketing that savings for themselves.
Cannot have it both ways, if they cared about the consumer and keeping cost
down we would have seen a reduction. We have not and actions speak louder
than words. Not buying that any corporation cares more about their
customers than they do about their profit margin.

AT&T/DirecTV negotiate a carriage deal to rebroadcast the channel. The channel itself decides on their programming lineup and commercials. The channel may change the content around at any time, all the TV provider does is rebroadcast it. That is what is meant by the TV provider doesn't control the content. It is not up to the TV provider what the channel shows.

If channels charge TV providers more to be in packages, that naturally raises the bill. TV provider is trying to minimize such an increase so as not to disrupt the consumer base as customers can only handle so much of an increase (over time as all channels increase their costs). Never said this is about the business caring (and I don't think anyone else has said that, but it would be impossible to read every single post out there) about the customer, but making a business decision to keep costs within reason.

Once agreement came up Nexstar pulled the feed, as they may do since they own the broadcast rights. TV provider would have no issue with an extension offer, provided the channel owner does not require and increase in cost for the extension itself. If the extension is provided at no more then the current rate, then it would be reasonable for TV provider to accept. Otherwise to accept extension at an increase in cost just gives in to the channel owner's demands.

I hope they come to a reasonable agreement. But I would have no problem if Nexstar were just dropped completely if it would remove that factor from the next rate increase. I'll happily plug in a antenna for locals.

Is there any resolution yet?   Can't get abc channel for a month now.  Can't use ANTENNA as they wanted us to do.  We live in the mountains and over 70 miles from station.  Will need to get a new provider as abc has so many programs we watch.  Are they really having on going negotiations?

For about a month now, I have not been able to view 3 channels on my U-verse tv package. AT&T is blaming Nexstar for over-pricing, and Nexstar is saying AT&T is refusing to negotiate. Nexstar's Elizabeth Ryder's article (7/11/2019) even gives a list of stations and channels AT&T has stopped transmitting to its customers. It seems to me that AT&T's buyout of Spectrum tv is making AT&T feel like the b.m.o.c.! If you don't agree, wait till you try to retain U-verse tv after your 2 year agreement expires! There will be no negotiation. They'll tell you its their price, or Direct tv. I'm not getting the number of channels I bargained for, and I want them back. AT&T has promised to update us on negotiations with Nexstar, but they haven't done that, either, so I guess Nexstar is right, AT&T isn't negotiating! What's going on, AT&T?

I am tired of your excuses.  I am missing the first NFL pre-game with the Denver Broncos.  Get over yourselves!!  You know whatever the outcome will be, you will still make us pay for it.  This fake outrage is ridiculous.  Your customers always pay.  If not, refund me lots of money for the loss of NBC, CBS and Fox for several months and for my pain and suffering.

Anyone given a credit? I could maybe see a month but it's been awhile and NBC is a major network.

Yes U also lost many channels that I used to receive free over the air through my HD antenna.  I was very dissatisfied with this AT&T feature, AT&T told me tough luck too bad, even if I paid more money each month for the higher version, there is STILL NO GUARANTEE  THAT I WOULD START RECEIVING THOSE 10+ LOST CHANNELS. I thought the basic level coverage would AT LEAST include those over the air HD free channels.  I had to buy another TV AND  NOT HOOK IT UP TO AT&T EQUIPMENT , JUST TO RECEIVE THOSE OVER THE AIR FREE HD CHANNELS, It's a crying shame I came to AT&T because I THOUGHT AT&T WOULD TREAT THEIR CUSTOMERS BETTER THAN COMCAST ; BUT I SEE THAT I AM WRONG! I CAN'T WAIT UNTIL MY YEAR IS UP SO I CAN CANCEL.-CVC, Stockton, CA
