Loss of channels
AT&T has failed to properly prepare for the anticipated end of contract negotiation with Nexstar - resulting in the loss of ABC station, a MAJOR network. This continues to happen, as in the past, when other channels were removed from the lineup - as your customers continue to pay increased costs in service. We set up another TV(purchased an antennae) that would give us this basic channel for the interim - assuming we will get the channel back at some time in the future! I think it's time to contact other providers who can provide continuing service that we PAY for and don't get with AT&T.

I have been paying 50 a month and now I only get 1 local channel. Not happy with. This line up even more bc I do not get nbc or cbs now. I pay a lot of money for basic. This should be lowered.

....and just what do you want anyone here in this public forum of users to do about it? Just wait. The negotiation will end shortly and all of us will probably see a price increase again.
For DirecTV Satellite, call 1-800-531-5000.
For DirecTV Stream, call 1-888-429-4023.

Quickly working to resolve issue with CBS removal? It's over a month now and working behind the scenes does not seem to be providing positive results? I am not sure AT&T realizes how much frustration really exists with their customers? Removing a local over the air station from the lineup is difficult to understand and shouldn't the FCC be involved to settle the dispute? At&T has offered a token billing adjustment?
Behind the scenes negotiations we are told are taking place, but maybe the curtain should be pulled back and expose what is really going on relative to settling the difference between AT&T and Nexstar??
Thank you,
Yes, frustrated customer

Start watching Canadian Football (CFL) on ESPN. After watching a few games you should be ready to quit watching all football, and even if all the channels that carry the NFL are soon restored, you hopefully won't care anymore.
Time to wean yourself off of a product that causes you grief if you lose it.
Are you ready for some football? If the answer is still yes, go outside and tackle a bunch of pretty girls instead. Flag on the field ... Illegal use of the hands.

Until a new agreement is reached, you will need to watch the free over-the-air (OTA) broadcast with a antenna on your TV. If you have the 2nd/3rd generation Genie (HR44/HR54) you could try calling DirecTV to see if you could get a Local Channel Connector (LCC). Allows connecting the antenna to the DirecTV box, even comes with a simple indoor antenna included. That way you don't have to switch inputs and can still record. The LCC is technically in testing, and stock has been hit hard with recent negotiations so not guaranteed to get one, but it is a shot. It will be great once there is enough to go around to everyone.
@piglet12
Your, shall we say alternative football, suggestion at the end there gave me quite the chuckle. Thank you, I needed that. 🙂

To get only 1 local, even during the Nexstar and CBS negotiations would not be common. I would double check www.directv.com/locals to see if there are any other locals you should be getting.
Package costs includes access to locals, not a certain amount or any specific local guaranteed. So as long as 1 local is received, the package cost is correct. Some have called DirecTV and gotten a small courtesy credit for the situation.
There is no "basic" package. If you are at $50 with no discounts then you are on the Family package (as the next package up is over $50 before receiver services and other fees). If with discounts, then you certainly don't have the lowest package and may wish to compare packages.

Since I do not get CBS (Local football NFL) and NBC as well as other stations can i cancel my cable contract with ATT because of failure to provide agreed stations?

Yes you can cancel. But if you are on a promotion you will incur early termination fees. No where in your contract or att's terms of service does att guarantee specific channels.

With cable companies there is no such thing as an "implied contract"! But you do agree to the Terms of Service. The pertinent part in there for this topic is:
You? Who me? Read my signature below. So I take no responsibility. None of this bothers me anyhow. I have an antenna which receives all the missing channels plus many many more.

Folks, it's over for me. Thirty-three days after losing CBS local affiliate, I'm enjoying my local news and the CBS shows I was missing. I gave AT&T a chance to rectify the situation, but have recently discovered it's cheaper for them to send everybody their LCC (Local Channel Connector, i.e. an indoor antenna) than to pay re-broadcast fees, AND they can still collect the same or higher fees from customers. Oops! Hope I didn't let the cat outta the bag!
So how am I watching my disappearing channels? It's simple. DISH is delighted to welcome Directv customers, to provide wonderfully human customer service, and to provide incentives to the folks Directv has thrown under the bus in the name of "profit". In fact, my deal with Dish is wonderful! I'm getting approximately 40 more channels--including all four major networks!!!--whole-home DVR, and two additional receivers for $34/month LESS than I've been paying Directv.
Yes, Juniper, before you say it...I realize ALL cable/satellite providers face periodic negotiations for re-broadcast rights. I also realize AT&T is the only one that hasn't been able to come to terms when it comes to carrying the top four major networks.
So long, folks. I'm going to talk with my remote control to find the next show I want to watch!

Well certainly make the changes that you desire. However, AT&T/DirecTV isn't the only one who has experienced long negotiations in the past. Dish has had their share too. I will be glad once the negotiation is over as that means it will be quite a while before it could happen again, with that exact channel owner. I don't have interest what provider you choose. I just don't like people having wrong assumptions or being misinformed.
@phytoplankton
I am a very experienced customer, and not just with my own account but assisting family and a few friends who have had different services. Sorry, but it is possible to have a life and still be knowledgeable. We just have different interests in what we become knowledgeable on.

as a provider, AT&T blacked out HBO on Dish for six months (and it might
still be blacked out) because At&t wanted everyone to pay for HBO
regardless of whether customers had it as part of their subscription
package.
At&t is now complaining that Nexstar and CBS are making unreasonable
demands by a so called 100% fee increase or the so called largest fee
increase among any other provider.

c_brookhart,
Nope, no HBO there, but premium channels are not what I was angry about. Loss of local channels for local news, etc, as part of national network affiliations were my issue. I actually only lost one channel, but it was CBS, which is my favorite major network and local affiliate news reports. I gave it 30 days. Peace treaties have been negotiated in less time than that.
As far as premium channels go, I'm not a fan of any of them. Current "premium" viewing has proven to be too violent or too vulgar for my taste. But if that's what you enjoy, you're going to be paying a streaming price, whether through a provider as an add-on or whether through a streaming service or even directly from HBO, Showtime or whatever..
I think it comes down to a matter of viewing preferences and/or priorities. As I've said before, I loved Directv for many years, and would not have complained if my bill went up a dollar or two so I could have all four major networks (there is zero OTA signal reception where I live). But enough is enough. If I'm going to pay for television, I'm going to have the channels that are important to *me*.
Now, if someone could just tell me how to unsubscribe from this forum/thread...
