Loss of channels
AT&T has failed to properly prepare for the anticipated end of contract negotiation with Nexstar - resulting in the loss of ABC station, a MAJOR network. This continues to happen, as in the past, when other channels were removed from the lineup - as your customers continue to pay increased costs in service. We set up another TV(purchased an antennae) that would give us this basic channel for the interim - assuming we will get the channel back at some time in the future! I think it's time to contact other providers who can provide continuing service that we PAY for and don't get with AT&T.

All TV providers go through negotiations as they don't own the channels. So switching to any provider is a chance as when their agreement comes up with the channel they could go through the same thing. And other channels go through negotiations as well. So switching would only be a temporary solution for the individual channel. This is just AT&T's turn with this particular channel owner.
Since channels are subject to change, a clause all TV providers have with this situation being a big reason, no credit is required. If you call they might provide you a courtesy credit. However, CBS being gone would not be worth $30 on an individual bill. Having access to locals as I recall is about $7 or $8 (few people still have very old packages where it is itemized instead of bundled into package cost so is more transparent), so if evened out across number of locals than it is worth $1 or less. Not much for an individual, but a large amount for DirecTV since they have to pay the channel owner for all customers. Certainly call and see what courtesy credit you can get, even check to see if your account qualifies for any discounts that would not have anything to do with the negotiations (such as 12 months).

What do you do? Shop around. Look for new alternatives. You can wait for ATT to bring the stations back, but don't hold your breath. We're getting a streaming provider. We'll get back the local stations back, the NFLN back and most of the stations we watch.
And we'll be saving $80.00 per month. We're going to buy another TV for the living room, it'll be paid off in a few months with the money we're saving.
So I can only say...thank you for the new TV AT and T!!!!!

When the local affiliate owner (probably Nexstar as that is the big one right now) and DirecTV reach a new carriage agreement. Until then, the channel owner does not provide the feed as is their right.
In the meantime you will need to use a regular antenna on your TV to catch the free broadcast or find another channel to watch.

Since there is no ABC, my NFL football watching g, plus tons of my favorite shows can't be watched. To me this is a contract breaker with no penalties. I would never have left Comcast. I want out of my contract. How are subscribers to get satisfaction?

Our local Fox station is currently in dispute with DTV and is not being shown. I have the NFL Sunday Ticket. When the NFL season begins, will the blackout rules still apply to local games being shown on the Fox station or lifted and able to view on Sunday ticket?

The blackout rules will still apply. Any game showing on your local channels won’t be available via Sunday Ticket.

Most of the shows I watch in the fall are on NBC. Will they be back on in time? If not I will need to drop you as my carrier and I expect to do that with NO penalties.

There is no "set payment arrangement" for a year. You have a monthly discount which is for so long, but it does not lock in base cost. There is no price lock. Base cost of services go through an adjustment in January so this reflects on the Jan/Feb bill (depending when your cycle date is). This year's base price adjustment at most was under $10. Your bill going from about $100 to well over $200 is more than simply discounts completing. That suggest one-time charges, NFL Sunday Ticket renewal (notice in June, 1st of 6 installments in July), or a past due balance carrying over.
Without seeing the bill I cannot see exactly what caused the huge difference. All I can say for certain is about $140 in difference is more than just discounts completing and the 2019 price adjustment.

That agent must be newer then. The last few package sets have not had a separate charge for locals. Originally they were an optional separate charge until they got bundled into the packages. Locals are free over-the-air, but pay TV providers must pay them for the rebroadcast permission.
The links to check for credit on this situation only worked for a while and then they broke. So unless that gets fixed, calling to see if they will provide a courtesy credit is the option.
The NFL package (Sunday Ticket) has nothing to do with games on CBS. The Sunday Ticket is for out of market games you couldn't watch on CBS to begin with. In market games you watch on a local, such as the free OTA broadcast. CBS and DirecTV being in negotiations does not change what channels you are allowed to watch the games on.

It depends if you signed a contract. Why do you think new customer rates are so low? Because the providers are essentially paying you (via deep discounts) to switch.
