New u verse tv sign up - ROOT Sports Pittsburgh

i recently ( 2 days ago) signed for u verse tv. I am receiving the u300 package in about 3 weeks. The att salesperson told me that I would receive ROOT Sports Pittsburgh even though it did show on her channel guide. I live in Mentor, Ohio. I see Pittsburgh Penguins games on this channel as a regional offering on Directv. Please verify that I will have this same service with ATT Uverse. If not, I will cancel.
Thx,
Hjw

Unfortunately, you will not be able to receive Root Sports Pittsburgh with any package that U-verse has. The AT&T salesperson either lied to you in order to make a sale or was uninformed.

U-verse dropped Root Sports Pittsburgh, Rocky Mountain, and Seattle several years ago due to the fact that U-verse does not serve these regions.

Do you live in the area served by Root Sports Pittsburgh? If not, the Penguins will be blacked out due to NHL blackout rules no matter who your television provider is. Regional sports channels like Root Sports Pittsburgh are subject to the blackout rules of Major League Baseball, the National Hockey League, and the National Basketball Association. If you do not live in the area served by the regional sports channel, no matter who the television provider is, the game is blacked out.

This is something which should be a point of contention to some people in the Columbus NHL office, but I'll leave it at that.

Pittsburgh (and Detroit, for that matter) extend their TV markets into parts of Ohio, even though FOX Sports Ohio also serves all of Ohio (plus, I think, nearby areas.) For a while, a viewer in Cleveland could watch Sabres games on the old Buffalo channel before it was swallowed up by Fox Sports New York...or whatever channel they're on now.

Remember that TV markets do not follow state lines. (Connecticut comes to mind.)

As far as the original poster, if you want U-Verse, you'll have to sign up for NHL GameCenter and hook a computer up to your TV or get a Roku or other connected device that supports GameCenter. (But it's better than missing games when you're away because you're signed up via your TV provider and not GameCenter.)

Summary: It is up to the customer of a new product or service, regardless of what that product or service may be to fully research it before signing on the dotted line.

Would like to revisit this issue about Root Sports Pittsburgh in Ohio.   We did get Fox Sports Pittsburgh at the time it became Root Sports Pittsburgh about 3 years ago and that was one of the reasons I went to ATT Uverse. However,  when the existing contract with Fox Sports Pittsburgh was passed to Root Sports Pittsburgh ATT Uverse dropped it suddenly in the middle of baseball season.   Pirates fans in Central Ohio are in a jam.  Central Ohio is a HOME MARKET for the Pirates,  that means that Root Sports Pittsburgh is the sole provider of most live games and that you cannot get the games live on MLB TV.   But if you cant get Root Sports Pittsburgh and without the blackout,  then you cant get the games at all live.  I think ATT Uverse underestimates the size and passion of the Pittsburgh fan base in Central Ohio.  Even understanding that  Central Ohio is not a home market for the Steelers and Penguins

Your post is confusing. Are you a Dish customer now or did mean to write, "If I had known would have gone to Dish."
