When are you going to resolve the problem with TEGNA?

When are you going to resolve the problem with TEGNA?  It's disrupting my service in watching WFSS (channel 8 - ABC) in my area.  Customers should not have to deal with the petty problems between Uverse and TEGNA.  Work it out or lose a long time subscriber.

1. Bills do not get prorated during negotiation. Package is the same cost regardless of the number of locals received (5, 12, 21, etc.). Only if there are no locals at all is there a different price. This is because they do not itemize locals specific to the address, but just have it included in the same package cost for everybody. For those who have a grandfathered package with a line item for locals, that is still not specific to the address. Just when locals first were available it was an optional add-on.

2. TV providers and channel owners do not get an agreement to be carried forever. So their current carriage agreement came up so they must negotiate the next one. Pandemic doesn't change this. It is Tegna's choice whether to withhold the feed or not during negotiations. There is no obligation they provide it. Remember pay TV is an entertainment service so there is no requirement we get anything.

2.b Actual rates are private between companies. And just because the current agreement may have ended, doesn't mean they are allowed to share that information. Likely there is a non-disclosure clause that remains in effect. Whether a clause that prevents it or not, such inside information doesn't get shared as much as we might want it.

Too many people throw around they are "pointing  fingers like children". Simple fact is they must come to an acceptable agreement from both sides to continue the carriage agreement. The fact that so many people are throwing a tantrum, insulting, and demanding this and that for something that they are not entitled to, makes the customer look like the child.

Since channel owner wants to keep or increase current rate and TV provider would naturally want that lower, then I side with the TV provider. Because the higher rates channel owners are paid is the key factor that raises our bills. I am happy to use a regular antenna to get the free broadcast while they are hashing things out. Like most people I didn't go to pay TV for my free locals.

How do I get an adjustment on my bill for services no longer provided? We recently lost KSDK channel 5 a channel that we watch often and I believe that DTV should reimburse and decrease my bill.  I will be looking for other providers.

I’m in the same market. You’ll just run into the same thing if you switch tv providers. This happens to Dish and Spectrum too. In fact, channel 2 and 11 are currently warning their Dish customers of the same thing.

I know that everything these days is about the bottom line. To normal people coming home from a hard days work that bottom line crap don't mean....I watch my sports on CBS and for me to go without it because of a negotiation gone wrong is unacceptable. Maybe it's time to move on. I was a direct TV  customer for a long time, I just don't understand....🤬🤬🤬

If you move on, you’ll just run into the same thing with other tv providers. Directv did not drop your local channel. Your local channel’s owner pulled the channel.

Please go here and educate yourself on why this is happening: https://www.att.com/tvpromise/

You may also qualify for a bill credit.

Over the last several years, station owners have really leveraged the power of "hostage negotiation". This occurs when the stations owners want more money from a carrier than the carrier is willing to pay. The owners (which often own hundreds of affiliates across the country) then start appealing directly to the viewers through screen crawls and other means, pointing out how the carrier is refusing their "reasonable" offers. In reality, the owners are counting on the ignorance of the viewers, who often don't know (or care) about what's really happening. It doesn't take long for viewer opinion to turn against the carriers, who then have to decide whether to stand their ground (angering viewers when channels are pulled by the owners) or to cave in and pay the demanded increase to the owners (angering viewers who then get their own bills increased to make up for the higher carriage fees). All carriers (such as AT&T, Spectrum, Cox, Dish and the rest) are having to deal with this more & more frequently.

@Dj7deep

Since you don't understand the situation, here is some clarification. Hope it helps.

Agreement between TV provider and channel owner came up. They must negotiate the next carriage agreement. It is not that negotiation has "gone wrong", but that both sides didn't come to an agreement before the current one ended.

So Tegna (the local affiliate owner) pulled their channel (as is their right) and will not return it until negotiations have completed. Both sides are hard at work trying to resolve this in each of their favor. They are normal people as well, so go home eventually (they don't negotiate 24/7) each day.

It is not up to you to accept it or not. Neither side can be forced to cave to the other. We will get their channels back once an agreement has been reached.

What you can do is simply use a regular antenna on the TV as a backup for negotiation times. You might even get other channels within range (such as sub-channels that DirecTV doesn't carry).

Switching providers will not protect you. Remember they don't own the channels so they all have to go through negotiations. It is unfortunate that local stations are pulling their feed more often in recent years with each of the providers.

You've got a lot of other channels, so use them. If you only care about a single channel, that is free over the normal airways, then why have pay TV in the first place?

Hope that helps you understand.

I am an AT & T stockholder as well as a DirectTV subscriber and the dispute does not seem to me to benefit either conglomerate. “Our” Tegna station is free over the air and we will plan to watch it for free using our HD antenna. WHY should we or AT & T pay for it AT ALL? That being said the wave of the future is streaming and clearly both companies are aware of this & trying to grab the big bucks which they overcharge customers while they can. We already stream quite a bit so we will likely just dump DirectTV when our contract is up in just a few months.

How do I check to see if I am eligible for a bill credit? I lost the NBC station in the DirecTV Tegna dispute. I went to the ATT promise page and signed into my DirecTV account but could not find a link to see if I qualify.

Or maybe wait a day or two and try again. When I logged into my account two days ago, nothing. But when I logged in yesterday, the offer for the bill credit popped up immediately for me.

Netflix is a lot cheaper than UVerse. When Netflix takes away shows you are notified and more shows are added.

Are you going to refund part of my subscription fee since you are not carrying CBS programing, I was unable to watch the 1st two episodes  of Seal Team and today I will not be able to watch Florida Gator's football! There are many programs I watch on CBS, YOU HAVE BROKEN OUR CONTRACT! This is BULL💩! I am strongly looking for an alternative to your service!

Why is channel 4 wwl in Louisiana being pulled from the local lineup? as a bill paying Directv customer for over 15 years, my family and I are missing many of our favorite programs and sporting events, namely SEC football today. WHY is this happening, seems like a yearly thing, is it you guys or TEGNA? Would really love to know, or maybe i should just get a firestick and stop paying the extortion fees!

Direct TV is the most expensive choice where I live, but up until this Tegna battle, it was worth it. You need to fix this...like now. Stop blaming others, and do your job.

OK I can live with not having the local stations they are available on antenna. To heck with the money grubbing (Edited per community guidelines). Local access is easy and all the programs are available on Prime and Amazon fire stick and TV. Tough for them.

DirecTv is simply deflecting.   They raise their billing whenever they want and pass along every cost +.   Then they are happy to pocket the cash they have been paying TEGNA while not compensating their customers who are being cheated.

My 18 year history is just that.  History, I’m gone

Ok so "like now"? So you want them to accept higher rates and increase our bills that much more?

Bottom line it is a two-way street. Both TV provider and channel owner are negotiating the next carriage agreement. Nothing obligates one to cave to the other immediately because you can't stand to be without one little channel. The channel will be returned by TEGNA when they decide as they own the broadcast rights.

So they each are doing their job negotiating for a deal that best favors them. As the customer it is better if the TV provider does better as channel owner winning means higher rates. Watch another channel for the time being. Or use a regular antenna if missing the one channel keeps you up at night.

My family and I will very soon be dropping AT&T U-verse TV. Its oft lack of channel/program availability is infuriating and wrong and not customer-focused.

In the very recent past, we’ve wanted to watch listed English Premier League soccer matches (e.g., Manchester United v. West Ham United on 05 December 2020) — and there’s clearly some dispute going on between AT&T and TENGA.

Additionally, there have been other events/shows that were listed in the channel lineup that were not viewable.

The continuance of us not having the NFL NETWORK to watch is lunacy.

We will be “cutting the cord” on cable / AT&T this month after the holiday.

The TEGNA dispute impacted my area as well. Per the temporary message on my local NBC channel, I tried using Locast in the interactive apps available. It would not connect after numerous attempts and interaction with Locast tech support. Last night, Locast mysteriously disappeared from the available interactive apps on my U-verse menu. Good old-fashioned greed never fails to exceed my expectations. It’s particularly disheartening that TEGNA and AT&T chose to have this battle during an epidemic, following a contentious election and at the start of an adversely altered holiday season.
