When are you going to resolve the problem with TEGNA?

When are you going to resolve the problem with TEGNA?  It's disrupting my service in watching WFSS (channel 8 - ABC) in my area.  Customers should not have to deal with the petty problems between Uverse and TEGNA.  Work it out or lose a long time subscriber.

Pay TV is not required to provide "all" local programming. There are many sub-channels out there that still are not carried on many providers and has been that way since the creation of sub-channels.

Sorry but Satellite providers are treated differently that cable.  Dish and DTV, as a Satellite provide are required to provide all local broadcast through their network  DTV just chooses to use us customers as leverage to their own advantage rather than turn on the national affiliate

DirecTV is not required to provide all local channels. They only provide locals for the DMA, and only if they have an agreement with the channel owner to do so. They are not allowed to turn on the national (DNS) version during negotiations, as the locals have stronger lobbying power. Plus those same locals lobbied to have Congress not renew the STELAR Act (which specifically applies to satellite TV), meaning even less people can get the DNS channels now.

Over a decade and only some locals provided, and essentially no sub-channels. If it were a rule otherwise, the FCC would have stepped in years ago.

Bottom line, you don't get the channel until TEGNA returns the feed. And they are not expected to until they come to an agreement.

I’m done with direct tv. Ten year customer. Time to move on missing the programs I enjoy. Could have negotiated and left your customers happy.

So you are going to move again when your new provider has the same problem?  So you want your bill to go up higher then needed by DTV caving into what the channel is asking to renew the contract?  DTV has been talking since before the contract expired.

They are negotiating. The choice was continue negotiating for a better deal, or just cave to Tegna and let the price go up that much more. Customers will not be happy either way because of an undue sense of entitlement.

And remember, moving on doesn't save you. All TV providers go through this. More often in recent years with local affiliates. They don't own the channels. To avoid carriage negotiations your option is traditional broadcast TV via an over-the-air (OTA) antenna.

Buh bye.

I’m missing my local NBC station too but in my market right now Dish customers lost FOX and the CW. As noted above, this happens to every tv provider. Get an antenna.

You mean the corporation that owns your NBC station as NBC has nothing to do with them removing the feed to DTV.

I have been a DirectTV customer for over 20rys; perhaps in the neighborhood of 32 yrs. What is the problem with the negotiations?  It sounds like the company that owns KARE (I'm from MN) has a fair offer on the table. I pay for a subscriptions that is suppose to give me all local channels, with KARE 11 being one on them. Because both parties are not able to reach an agreement I feel that my Direct TV bill needs an adjustment.  Thoughts anyone?

I have tried to go on the Direct TV chat but it has been busy for the last 20 mins and I cannot get in.

Sorry but NBC itself is not part of this. You are having an issue with the local affiliate station that is owned by Tegna. It is Tegna that is negotiating the next carriage agreement. They are not NBC owned, but a local affiliate station.

TV provider wants bill to lower. Channel owner wants cost higher. Both views are valid, but as customers if deal works out more in channel's favor, then that affects raising costs that much more for us.

Your subscription doesn't guarantee you all local channels, nor any specific channel. TV providers don't own the channels so must have a carriage agreement to give them permission. You don't have all your local sub-channels for example. Sometimes negotiations resolve behind closed doors and we are unaware when it happens. Sometimes channel gets shutdown everywhere (i.e. Cloo, Chiller, SoapNet). And sometimes like in this case, channel owner pulls the feed as part of negotiations. This is why all TV providers have that clause stating that channels, programming, etc. is subject to change.

The packages are the same cost for everyone regardless of how many locals you receive. As long as you get one local, then you are getting what you pay for. Now if you were in one of the rare areas with no locals provided at all, then there is a lower cost version of the package for that reason only.

If you log into your account, you might have the option for a one-time credit like some others have gotten. But that is a courtesy, not a requirement.

Yeah yeah it’s the other guys fault, but I am paying you.  No Sunday night football?!?!  Why am I paying to get reruns of the Big Bang theory and 57 shopping channels?   Really going to be thinking hard about where I spend my money and what I am getting for it, but for now I am busy rigging up an antenna so I can see my Chiefs play.   Thanks DirectTV, not very impressed.   Dave - 20+ year ATT customer.

First of all this is between AT&T/DirecTV and TEGNA as it is simple negotiations. Yes TEGNA took away the feed, which is their right as they own the channel, as part of that negotiation. It will be back when both sides come to an agreement. It is better for the customer if the agreement is in the TV provider's favor, because the more that must be paid to the channel owner factors into bills going higher.

Second, switching will not save you from this situation. All TV providers go through negotiations. And local affiliates have been pulling their feed more often in recent years to leverage us customers. So another provider will not save you. Or do you plan to switch every time a channel goes off for a bit because you can't bring yourself to watch something else?

Third, you are not paying us. This is a public forum of other customers. Just because we understand the reality of the situation, doesn't change that we are not employees of AT&T/DirecTV. Don't care if you are impressed or not.

So you can be patient while negotiations working on completing. You could plug in a regular antenna into your TV to get the free broadcast, which sounds like you are working on. Plus you might be able to get other channels in range that they don't have to begin with (like sub-channels). Sure you could try switching, but be remember no TV provider is immune as they all go through negotiations and channels pulling their feed. This is simply AT&T/DirecTV's turn.

I was all set to watch the Chiefs game tonight and then I find out.  because if the almighty dollar, I am bot going to get to watch it. How much more money do you people want to make before it's enough. Give ys back Channel 5 in the St. Louis area (NBC )  and argue about fair market price on somebody else's time

Of course it is on their own time. There isn't a time where it will not impact one customer or another. You are same as the rest of us.

You don't want fair market price? Well then, tell TEGNA you are willing to pay all the extra cost they want that the rest of us don't want to pay. Rest of us would just love it if you shoulder the cost as you think your money dictates when they are allowed to negotiate.

Why do why do we have no Channel 5-KSDK???  Why does direct tv make it sound like it is KSDK’s fault??  I am a customer of Directv. Posting these that make this KSDK’s problem make me sick. When we went with Direct TV we stressed the importance of our local channels. KSDK happens to be my favorite channel for news and many sports. If this continues I will leave Direct tv and never return.  Direct tv needs to wake up and take care of their customers!!

Like it or not...... I am both and AT&T cell customer and Direct TV. customer.  If this isn't resolved in a day or two.... I will be changing service and going to an Antenna for local channels and streaming the rest of my programming.    Ridiculous to pay $180 for TV service and have to put up with this service failure.  Only have one movie channel (HBO} and it is supposedly free because of my unlimited cell plan with AT& T.    Guess I can take that business to Verizon while I am making changes.  Unbelievable they don't care more about their customers.

I think it is RIDICULOUS that we have lost access to a BASIC cable service like NBC.  In the last 48 hours I have spent HOURS trying to figure out how to access television shows I have watched for YEARS and sports events from my own home state that everyone else on the planet can see.  FIGURE OUT this problem with Tegna and stop interrupting the service that I already pay TOO much to get.

Tegna pulled the feed, which is their right, to try and get a better deal. Remember a better deal for them means higher cost for TV provider and us customers (our bill gets adjusted that much more).

So would you prefer channel now and higher rates, or be patient thru negotiations as TV provider minimizes any price adjustment? (ideally avoid but cost of pretty much everything in the world has gone up over the years).

If you pay "TOO much" then reduce service or get rid of it. Nobody is forcing you to have that level of programming.

And of course with streaming options they negotiate for the programming they get. But if splitting streaming and free broadcast TV works better for you, why wait. Give up the bluster and just make the mature choice.

If they didn't care at all, then they would just cave to the demands and have our bills go up that much more. "But I want it now! Don't care my bill will go up again!" hmm?
