When are you going to resolve the problem with TEGNA?

When are you going to resolve the problem with TEGNA?  It's disrupting my service in watching WFSS (channel 8 - ABC) in my area.  Customers should not have to deal with the petty problems between Uverse and TEGNA.  Work it out or lose a long time subscriber.

For two weeks now, because of a dispute with Tegna Inc. and you, we can not get NBC. We signed up for local channels including NBC in real time.

When is this going to be resolved. I don't want to switch back to Spectrum, but this is not what we signed up for.

Please advise.

The problem with using an antenna (yep, got one hooked up) or locast (yep, got it installed), is that I can't find a way to record anything with the tools available.  Has anyone solved that problem?  The AT&T TV DVR function is pretty lame already (misses the beginning or end of some programs, is bad at series recording management, and has NO manual recording function that I can find.)

But the truth is I watch almost nothing live except sports; all our favorite TV shows get recorded so we can watch them at our leisure.  So with the Tegna thing we are just missing programs now.

I've heard I can ask for a credit or a partial refund, but what I want, and what I was sold when I signed up, was service on par with YouTube TV, which this clearly is not.

1) Locast is offered in my area (free local channels) and may be available in your area.

2) A digital antenna for OTA television, which will cost you $40-50 for a good one, but will solve this problem forever.

3) I just called DirecTV/AT&T and they offered me for free a "local connection box" which is supposed to work with the satellite box and give me my local channels (I'll update you as to how it's going to work).  Since it's free, I said to sent it.

This is the local connection box they are giving for free (if you have a Genie like I do):

https://www.att.com/support/article/directv/KM1268158?authNState=Y&haloSuccess=true

What do I get with the Local Channel Connector kit?
The kit comes with 4 items:
  • An indoor antenna to get over-the-air local broadcast stations
  • A Local Channel Connector device to connect the antenna to Genie models HR44 and HR54
  • A power supply unit to connect the Local Channel Connector to an electric outlet
  • A user guide with setup instructions

How do I set up the Local Channel Connector?
Plug the Local Channel Connector into the back of your Genie box with a USB cable and then to the indoor antenna with a coax cable.  Get detailed setup instructions.

What can I do and not do with my Local Channel Connector?
With our over-the-air antenna service, you can:
  • Watch up to 2 channels at a time or watch 1 and record 1.
  • Pause, fast-forward, rewind, and record.
  • Use parental controls to monitor local channels.
  • Stream local channel signals to your Genie Mini.

You won’t be able to:
  • Watch On Demand content.
  • Record local channels using Mobile DVR on the DIRECTV App.
  • Watch local channels on directv.com, online, or on local channel apps.

I would like to know how long this issue with WWL-TV out of New Orleans is going to last. I am very dissatisfied with this situation. I have watched this channel for over 50 years and depend on their news and weather. If the settlement is not done soon, I will need to look for another provider. I feel as though the price I pay for Direct TV should prevent this type of issue. I am already unhappy because at times I can't find anything worth watching even with all the channels I have access to. There are too many shopping channels.

WWL will return when it's owner, Tegna, agrees to let DirecTV provide it again. These corporations want more and more $$$ to carry their "free" over-the-air channels, and the situation has gotten out of hand. Check out this video for the truth about "retransmission" negotiations, then lean on WWL and their owner, Tegna, to let DirecTV deliver their channel while negotiations continue.

DTV nor any other TV provider have any control over a channels programming in fact the content providers send the same feed to all of them.  Those shopping channels pay the TV providers to carry them so reduces what you would be paying.

We have purchased Sunday ticket for years to see the Steeler games.  It costs a lot.  We don't want pay you to see the games but we do.  Just like you may not want to pay to broadcast certain networks.  If those networks however, are what you need to provide a service we pay you for that is your problem and you should have paid them.  We paid you to do so.  Again, We didn't want to but we did.  This will be the second game Sunday night that we won't be able to see.  One missed game was WAY too many.  This needs to be fixed before tomorrow night.  I can't wait to hear how you are going to help me. Before game time.  Get back NBC!

In addition, they're probably not going to announce a date. Your local affiliate may announce something via their social media, but that's up to them.

When a deal is reached, it only takes a few minutes for Tegna to resuming sending out the signal.

I fail to understand why AT&T is so upset about TEGNA asking for more money.  You money grabbing, greedy (Edited per community guidelines) have have and the corner on that market that to your loyal and unappreciated customers for years, since the merger with the Bell System and you kept AT&T name, but took on the Bell horrendous customer service and even worse Bell attitude.  I'm sure with all the money you've robbed from us with your bogus hidden fees you would wouldn't notice it was being paid out.  On the other hand, you would in pass the cost to us with and probably tack on additional charges because that is the true AT&T way of doing business. I mean after all we are paying for a package that includes CBS that we are not getting and you are still charging us full price.

I understand that programming can change.  We have U-verse basic. Channels will mysteriously appear and disappear. For example, I was thrilled that one time we suddenly got the Military History channel. Then it just as mysteriously disappeared a few weeks later.

But now it's our local NBC affiliate in St louis, KSDK.  It's suddenly gone and we see nothing but a message that says come to this website and forum.  My question is this:  Why not take the History channel off instead?  It is very long on reality shows and extremely short on anything to do with actual history.

The NBC St. Louis affiliate, channel 5, is a local channel on which we watch local news and programming.  How can U-verse allow this to be removed from their lineup, especially on the Basic contract, when local stations and home shopping channels are pretty much all that's offered?  In addition, we just finished a U-verse promotion so we are now paying more as of last month.

So give us something else like a sports or movie channel as a consolation.

Or maybe just let us keep the lower price.

Until stated otherwise, they are still negotiating. Unfortunately this is trending towards a longer one like a few others in recent years. So until Tegna allows it, their channels will be off the screen.

Good luck contacting Direct TV directly!  They hang up on you!!!  TVpromise.com states you can sign in to receive a one-time bill adjustment and I signed in and there is no place to request the bill adjustment!  We paid a fortune for an NFL ticket to watch the steelers and today is the second Sunday we can not watch the game!  So much for being able to watch any NFL game if you buy the NFL ticket!  More like you can watch any game except the one you really want to watch!!!!!

If you do any streaming (ie: Netflix/Prime/Hulu), locast allows you to stream local channels.

Also, in the case of NBC, PeacockTV (free) allows you to access programming.

The new seasons for local prime time shows are just starting and imagine our surprise when all of a sudden with no warning we no longer get NBC.  I am not very happy since I am paying a lot of money to have access to all local channels not just what you want to supply.  If you do not get NBC back on the line up very soon I will probably cancel my service and change to another provider.

ALL providers have to negotiate with ALL station owners to carry their product.  The only way to make sure you get your LOCAL stations with no interruptions is to use an antenna.

With an antenna there is no middle man and it's free.

OVER THE AIR:

Station-> to your antenna-> to your TV

USING A TV PROVIDER (CABLE OR SATELLITE):

Station-> sent to provider-> to the cable wires or satellite-> to your receiver or box-> to your TV.

See the difference?

You have two other options:  If you stream content, see if locast is offered in your market OR use the networks app (ie. PeacockTV) to stream content.

I agree, local channels should never be taken away but it’s not Directv taking them away, it’s the owner of those local stations, Tegna. Changing to a different provider won’t insulate you from that, it happens to every tv provider.

The question you should ask the network owners (in this case,  Tegna) is why do they charge pay tv providers to carry them when they're FREE over the air

There is no obligation for those "main" networks to provide their channels. It is still entertainment, not a utility.

The local affiliate owner (Tegna) is trying to get a better deal. So they have pulled their channels away (as is their right) from the TV provider. Once they are happy with a deal, they will return their channels.

You are not paying to have access to "all" local channels. Packages include access in general to locals, not any specific local guaranteed. Plus local sub-channels would not be available. You only get what is in your Designated Market Area (DMA) and only if the local allows it. So again you are paying for what they can supply, not all of them.

Changing to another provider will not save you. All of them go through these negotiations and it is becoming more common for local affiliates to do this. Even Nexstar did this to DirecTV a while back and is now doing it to another provider.

Regular antenna, Locast, the local's streaming app, or watching one of your many other actual pay TV channels are your options.

Once again it is the consumer that is caught up in corporate greed.  No matter what side is involved in the negotiations, they are both making a lot of money from their subscribers.  With the college football playoffs and the national Championship coming up, numerous popular programming on both NBC and ABC, a pandemic that pretty much keeps us at home as much as possible, the timing of this is so obvious.  We the consumer are simply at the mercy of both parties involved in this and there is no one who really cares about us.
