US Open Court Channel 3 & 4 stopped in the middle
Yesterday, US Open Court Channel 3 & 4 stopped in the middle of two matches. De Minaur and Carreno Busta ended up going 4 sets but it looked like De Minaur was coming back in the 3rd set Riske-Amritraj and Wang on Channel 4 cut off in the 2 second set, on serve, at deuce. The DVR was set to record 90 minutes passed the scheduled time. Something happened around 5pm. Did I do something wrong, did the DVR malfunction, or ? Maybe this was an ESPN issue? In the past the channels have been reliable and a "breath of fresh air." The US Open continues and knowing about what happened would be appreciated, so problems a can be avoided.

No one here knows. Although, any sort of broadcast issue would be ESPN’s fault. The DVR wouldn’t just randomly malfunction while recording a show. Is there an error code you get when trying to view the rest of the sets or does the recording just end?

@DNR_Caribou
That’s an issue with ESPN and not DIRECTV. Think of it like this, ESPN gives DIRECTV the content and DIRECTV delivers it. DIRECTV isn’t in charge of how the broadcast looks or any sort of glitches/issues with it.

Yes, I understand. ESPN is saying the problem lies with DirectV and vice versa - Great play by both companies. There doesn't seem to be any way to pin this problem down. Thank you for the insights.

Hello @DNR_Caribou, we care for you to enjoy all your programming with no interruptions.
When you see the black screen in the recording, does the timeline on the video player continue? Or does it reach an end in that point?
We'll be waiting for your response.

Alejandro,
Unfortunately, the DVR recordings were deleted. As I recall both recordings just end with no black screen or DirectV screen which suggests to me that the DVR ended at 5pm. I can't say if channels 903(?) and 905(?) continued to broadcast even though the the DVR stopped. The DVR was programmed to record for 90 minutes past 5pm to 6:30. I've updated the DVR settings so the Episode and Series settings both are set to 90 minute extension. I will return to this post if the problem happens again with more details.

@DNR_Caribou,updating your DVR setting it's an excellent idea to make sure everything works as expected.
@detuch254, this is a helpful insight, we appreciate your contributions to our community.
Based on what you mentioned, the error with your recordings may had occurred due to failures on the broadcaster side. Please let us knwo if by any chance you experience the same error with another channel, or specific show.
We'll be here to help.

Shannon02,
I'm not sure about your reference to Channels 3, 4, 206, 209. The channels I'm working with at 901-905 which carry signal from ESPN, the Tennis channel, and other channels depending on the Tennis Tournament. ESPN provides signal for the US Open. These channels only operate during certain days, and times. They cover one match at a time from beginning to end. The Tennis Channel and ESPN move around from Tennis match to Tennis match and commentators. Channels 901-905 are a special treat.

Please excuse me, but US Open channels 3 & 4 correspond to the actual channel 903 & 904. During tennis tournaments channels 901-905 can be assigned temporarily to the tournament play.

Seems, I need to clarify channel explanation further and provide more observations.
The channel numbers are 901-907.
901 is an open mix of 4 channels.
902 is US Open Network Simulcast
903 is US Open Court Channel 1
904 is US Open Court Channel 2
905 is US Open Court Channel 3
906 is US Open Court Channel 4
907 is US Open Court Channel 5
Another problem, or related problem, is when pressing the record button while viewing the Guide, the default recording is either Series or Episode recording with Series being the most frequent. If you don’t pay attention, and the Episode is recorded using the Episode settings, the Program could be short because the Episode default extension is 3 minutes. Even though the Series settings are set for a longer extension, the recording will follow the Episode shorter extension. If you know about this problem, both Series and Episode settings can be set to ensure proper program length recording.
Two close and exciting matches were cut off before the end. Both at exciting times. All recorded episodes were extended by 1 1/2 hours. Unless there is programing after the special program you are not able to record anything more except to extend the recording by up to 3 hours. If the programs were extended 3 hours, the whole Tennis match could have been watched. The problem is on any of the other DirectV channels, the TV program records the entire event and TV programs on either side of the desire program could be recorded to ensure full event coverage. The DirectV Guide for these temporary channels only needs to extended to cover the full event and/or Programs following the event need to be able to be recorded.

One further note, Today is the last day for these special Tennis channels. So no further testing or observations can be reported beyond tomorrow until the next covered Tennis Tournament. The Australian Open is in January.
